Battery keeps dying after two or three days parked

EuroRoadie58Community StarterDec 24, 20252023 BMW M340i xDriveBay Area
2023 BMW M340i xDrive, about 22,000 miles. Battery tested okay at a parts store, but if the car sits for a weekend it sometimes won't crank. Alternator voltage looks normal while running. How would you narrow down a parasitic draw without pulling every fuse blindly? I'd rather test this logically than start replacing parts.

Start with the test that can prove you wrong. A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2023 BMW M340i is losing coolant with no puddle. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. Heat soak after errands is the other window.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. Get a real battery/charging test on the 2023 BMW M340i, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. If that fails I'll eat the diagnostic fee.

Yes, with one caveat: Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2023 BMW M340i and see if the fault moves. That's the branch I'd chase this week. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. That's my plan before I call anyone.

If it were in my driveway, if a shop can't duplicate it on the 2023 BMW M340i, bring a video plus freeze-frame data, not just a story. Save the big job until that test fails. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. If that fails I'll eat the diagnostic fee.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. Two 2023 BMW M340is can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. Save the big job until that test fails. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. Make the next action something you can finish this week. That's my plan before I call anyone.

Log the conditions before you spend. Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2023 BMW M340i does it — then decide on parts. Save the big job until that test fails. On “battery keeps dying after two or three,” that was the fork that mattered for me. A shop burned me once by skipping that step. Doing the boring step first on purpose.

That's a good start, but I wouldn't stop there. Loaded-suspension checks on the 2023 BMW M340i catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. Write the result down so the next test isn't a repeat of the last one. Checking again after work.

Ask what changed right before it started. Two 2023 BMW M340is can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. That's the branch I'd chase this week. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. Checking again after work.

Log the conditions before you spend. Capture voltage while the 2023 BMW M340i is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. On “battery keeps dying after two or three,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. Not interested in a five-hour wait for a shrug.

OP update: scanned the 2023 BMW M340i again and still only have the one pending code, no new lights. I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.

Update: the cheap test changed the symptom, so I'm not throwing parts yet. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

Intermittent stuff lies if you only catch it once. Capture voltage while the 2023 BMW M340i is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. That's the branch I'd chase this week. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. Your commute and mine probably aren't the same, but the test still applies. I already checked the easy fluid levels.
