EV tires wearing much faster than expected

TrailDadCommunity StarterApr 22, 20262024 Rivian R1S Dual-MotorNYC / Long Island
2024 Rivian R1S Dual-Motor, about 8,200 miles. Rear tires are wearing noticeably faster than I expected even though alignment is supposedly okay. I know weight and torque don't help. Has anyone improved life with rotations, pressure changes, or a different tire without killing efficiency? I'm in NYC / Long Island. Appreciate any ideas on what to check first.

I'd treat 12V warnings as a no-ignore. On the 2024 Rivian R1S, I'd get the 12V/DC-DC side checked even if the traction pack looks fine. Then you'll know the next fork. On “ev tires wearing much faster than expected,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Write the result down so the next test isn't a repeat of the last one. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. Parking it somewhere I can hear it better next time.

Agree — and I'd add this: On the 2024 Rivian R1S, I'd get the 12V/DC-DC side checked even if the traction pack looks fine. Then you'll know the next fork. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. If your situation is the opposite, ignore me. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

Don't clear the alert just to make the screen pretty. Leave the alerts on the 2024 Rivian R1S so service can see what you saw. Then you'll know the next fork. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' Not trying to scare you — just skip the expensive first guess. That's my plan before I call anyone.

It did ev tires wearing much faster than expected twice this week, both times after sitting. No change in mileage feel. Cold start is when I can actually reproduce it.

Low-voltage gremlins will strand you even with a full pack. Try a second charger before blaming the 2024 Rivian R1S — site sharing and pack temp change the curve a lot. I'd do that before spending real money. If you share a photo of the worksheet, easier to sanity-check. This is the version I'd tell a friend.

Fair point. Counterpoint: Match starting SOC and battery temp if you're comparing 2024 Rivian R1S charge sessions. Then you'll know the next fork. This is from a 2024 Rivian R1S in NYC / Long Island with 8,200 miles. Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. I refuse to clear codes until someone else sees them.

Update: the cheap test changed the symptom, so I'm not throwing parts yet. No warning lights, which is why I'm documenting it.
