G37 runs hot at idle but cools once moving

OldSchoolCommuterCommunity StarterDec 11, 20252013 Infiniti G37 xSLos Angeles
2013 Infiniti G37 xS, about 4,800 miles. Temperature creeps up sitting still and drops once road speed gives it airflow. Fans appear to run, but I haven't checked actual commanded speed. Any good way to diagnose airflow versus coolant circulation without guessing? Appreciate any ideas on what to check first.

Start with the test that can prove you wrong. A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2013 Infiniti G37 is losing coolant with no puddle. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. That's the whole play. If that fails I'll eat the diagnostic fee.

Same neighborhood, different next step: Capture voltage while the 2013 Infiniti G37 is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. On “g37 runs hot at idle but cools,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Do that first. No warning lights, which is why I'm documenting it.

If it were in my driveway, loaded-suspension checks on the 2013 Infiniti G37 catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. Save the big job until that test fails. This is from a 2013 Infiniti G37 in Los Angeles with 4,800 miles. Monthly payment math is how wallets disappear. I'd rather be boring and correct. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2013 Infiniti G37 does it — then decide on parts. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. I'll update if anything new shows up.

It did g37 runs hot at idle but cools twice this week, both times after sitting. No change in mileage feel. Doing the boring step first on purpose.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2013 Infiniti G37 is losing coolant with no puddle. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. That's the whole play. Make the next action something you can finish this week. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

Log the conditions before you spend. Capture voltage while the 2013 Infiniti G37 is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. On “g37 runs hot at idle but cools,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Take it or leave it — that's what I'd do. Not driving it hard until I know more.

Log the conditions before you spend. Two 2013 Infiniti G37s can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. That's the branch I'd chase this week. On “g37 runs hot at idle but cools,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Just my two cents from doing this recently. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. Not driving it hard until I know more.

Agree — and I'd add this: Get a real battery/charging test on the 2013 Infiniti G37, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. Save the big job until that test fails. On “g37 runs hot at idle but cools,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Just my two cents from doing this recently. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. Cold start is when I can actually reproduce it.

Start with the test that can prove you wrong. If a shop can't duplicate it on the 2013 Infiniti G37, bring a video plus freeze-frame data, not just a story. That's the branch I'd chase this week. The universe charges extra for guessing. Parking it somewhere I can hear it better next time.

That's a good start, but I wouldn't stop there. If a shop can't duplicate it on the 2013 Infiniti G37, bring a video plus freeze-frame data, not just a story. Save the big job until that test fails. A shop burned me once by skipping that step. This is the version I'd tell a friend.

Not convinced that's the whole story. Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2013 Infiniti G37 does it — then decide on parts. Save the big job until that test fails. Just my two cents from doing this recently. Your commute and mine probably aren't the same, but the test still applies. This is the version I'd tell a friend.

If it were in my driveway, move a coil or plug on the 2013 Infiniti G37 if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. That's the branch I'd chase this week. This is from a 2013 Infiniti G37 in Los Angeles with 4,800 miles. Monthly payment math is how wallets disappear. I'd rather be boring and correct. Wrote this up on my lunch break.
