Good independent shop for a pre-purchase inspection?

CleanNomad75Community StarterMay 26, 20262023 Subaru Outback WildernessDenver / Front Range
2023 Subaru Outback Wilderness, about 14,500 miles. Looking at a used car locally and want a genuinely independent PPI, preferably someone familiar with this brand. What do you ask the shop to include besides a basic scan and lift inspection?

Walked a dealership this week on the 2023 Subaru Outback (14,500 miles) and the doc fee was the tell. PPI guy I use is booked until next week, so I'm waiting.

I asked about purchase inspection again and they still won't put GAP/add-ons on their own lines. If the VIN lookup is clean I'm still doing PPI.

Hard-won lesson from my last deal: Call your insurer in Denver / Front Range before you fall in love with the 2023 Subaru Outback. Do that before you talk monthly again. On “purchase inspection,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2023 Subaru Outback in Denver / Front Range with 14,500 miles. Have you gotten a second quote in writing? Wrote this up on my lunch break.

Walk if they won't put it on a buyer’s order. If one piece looks too good on the 2023 Subaru Outback, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. Then the comparison gets honest. If you share a photo of the worksheet, easier to sanity-check. I've seen both outcomes, which is why I'd test instead of assume. If they only talk monthly I'm walking.

I'd want competing paper, not competing stories. GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2023 Subaru Outback numbers without them. If they balk, that's your answer. Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. I'd sleep better after that step, even if it finds nothing. If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.

Compare apples to apples or you'll get spun. GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2023 Subaru Outback numbers without them. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. PPI guy I use is booked until next week, so I'm waiting.

Don't send a deposit on a phone quote. If one piece looks too good on the 2023 Subaru Outback, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. Then the comparison gets honest. If you share a photo of the worksheet, easier to sanity-check. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

I would not stare at the monthly. Two 2023 Subaru Outback quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. That's the part that actually changes the decision. If you share a photo of the worksheet, easier to sanity-check. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

Get the messy numbers in writing first. Call your insurer in Denver / Front Range before you fall in love with the 2023 Subaru Outback. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “purchase inspection,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. I asked for the buyer’s order in email, not a text.
