Model Y low-voltage warning before a road trip

CanyonPilot62Community StarterApr 24, 20262024 Tesla Model Y Long RangeDetroit
2024 Tesla Model Y Long Range, about 96,000 miles. Low-voltage battery warning appeared and I have a trip coming up. Main pack is fine. I don't want to get stranded over the small battery—what would you consider a no-drive warning versus something safe to take straight to service? If I fix it I'll come back and update the thread.

Don't clear the alert just to make the screen pretty. Leave the alerts on the 2024 Tesla Model Y so service can see what you saw. That's where I'd start. Stop there until you know. This is the version I'd tell a friend.

Agree — and I'd add this: Leave the alerts on the 2024 Tesla Model Y so service can see what you saw. I'd do that before spending real money. This is from a 2024 Tesla Model Y in Detroit with 96,000 miles. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

It did voltage warning before a road trip twice this week, both times after sitting. No change in mileage feel. I'd rather pay for diagnosis than a second guess-repair.

I'd treat 12V warnings as a no-ignore. On the 2024 Tesla Model Y, I'd get the 12V/DC-DC side checked even if the traction pack looks fine. Then you'll know the next fork. On “voltage warning before a road trip,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Do that first. Climate here is different, so treat that as a local data point. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. I'll poke at it this weekend.

Low-voltage gremlins will strand you even with a full pack. Try a second charger before blaming the 2024 Tesla Model Y — site sharing and pack temp change the curve a lot. I'd do that before spending real money. Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. I've seen both outcomes, which is why I'd test instead of assume. I'd rather pay for diagnosis than a second guess-repair.

Tried a second charger / second scan and the story on the 2024 Tesla Model Y didn't change. I'll poke at it this weekend.

Then you'll know the next fork. Just my two cents from doing this recently. Your commute and mine probably aren't the same, but the test still applies. If that fails I'll eat the diagnostic fee.

Update: the cheap test changed the symptom, so I'm not throwing parts yet. Parking it somewhere I can hear it better next time.

Charge curves lie if you don't match starting SOC and temp. Match starting SOC and battery temp if you're comparing 2024 Tesla Model Y charge sessions. That's where I'd start. Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. If it repeats twice more I'll book time.

Climate here is different, so treat that as a local data point. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

I hear you, though I'd still want a second check. On the 2024 Tesla Model Y, I'd get the 12V/DC-DC side checked even if the traction pack looks fine. Then you'll know the next fork. On “voltage warning before a road trip,” that was the fork that mattered for me. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' Wrote this up on my lunch break.
