Need advice: Can I go one inch smaller for winter wheels?

Looking at a smaller-diameter winter setup for more sidewall. Main concern is brake clearance and keeping total tire diameter close. What measurements do you verify before ordering? If I fix it I'll come back and update the thread.

I'd pick the setup I'll actually live with in slush. In DMV / Maryland, dedicated winters on the 2007 Porsche Cayman paid off more than I expected on ice, even on plowed roads. I'd do that before spending real money. When does it actually happen? No warning lights, which is why I'm documenting it.

That's a good start, but I wouldn't stop there. Watch brake clearance and overall diameter if you downsize winter wheels on the 2007 Porsche Cayman. That's where I'd start. This is from a 2007 Porsche Cayman in DMV / Maryland. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

Salt and cold mornings punish cheap shortcuts. If DMV / Maryland only sees a few real storms, a good all-weather on the 2007 Porsche Cayman can be the saner daily. Then you'll know the next fork. On “can i go one inch smaller for,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Stop there until you know. I already checked the easy fluid levels.
