Porsche Cayman purchase: how much weight do you give a borescope?

OldSchoolBuyerCommunity StarterJan 25, 20262007 Porsche Cayman SNYC / Long Island
Looking at an older Cayman S with good records. I keep seeing buyers emphasize borescope/PPI work on this generation. For someone vetting listings, what would make you walk away before spending money on a full inspection? Appreciate any ideas on what to check first.

Compare apples to apples or you'll get spun. A written buyer’s order on the 2007 Porsche Cayman is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” Do that before you talk monthly again. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. Not trying to scare you — just skip the expensive first guess. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. In NYC / Long Island, insurance quotes flipped a 2007 Porsche Cayman comparison for me more than the sale price did. Then the comparison gets honest. Time, temperature, and whether it's in gear are the notes that actually help a shop. Calling insurance in the morning before I reply to the desk.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. In NYC / Long Island, insurance quotes flipped a 2007 Porsche Cayman comparison for me more than the sale price did. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Parts cannon is a personality type I try to avoid. If they only talk monthly I'm walking.

Quick update: a second 2007 Porsche Cayman quote made the first offer look ordinary. That's my plan before I call anyone.

Fair point. Counterpoint: I would not wire money until I've seen the 2007 Porsche Cayman and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. Going to compare one more dealer before I decide.

Get the messy numbers in writing first. Ask for out-the-door on the 2007 Porsche Cayman with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “how much weight do you give a,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2007 Porsche Cayman in NYC / Long Island. That's the whole play. I asked for the buyer’s order in email, not a text.

I'd want competing paper, not competing stories. Ask for out-the-door on the 2007 Porsche Cayman with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. If they balk, that's your answer. When does it actually happen? This is the version I'd tell a friend.
