Project car budget is already getting away from me

2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS, about 8,200 miles. Bought a cheap project because the shell was solid, and now the 'small stuff' list is longer than the drivetrain list. How do you guys prioritize safety/reliability, fabrication, cosmetics and power without rebuilding the car three times? I'd rather test this logically than start replacing parts.

Write down what you already tried. A second data point from another 2016 Chevrolet Camaro owner helps more than a generic diagnosis. That's where I'd start. Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

Don't overfit one forum story to your car. If it still isn't clear on the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro, a specialist hour can be cheaper than another round of parts. I'd do that before spending real money. Parts cannon is a personality type I try to avoid. Make the next action something you can finish this week. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

Owner notes beat generic advice here. On the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro in Upstate New York, I'd fix the thing you'll notice every day before chasing spec-sheet extras. I'd do that before spending real money. On “project car budget is already getting away,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. That's my plan before I call anyone.

I'd keep this practical. Verify the cheap/easy branch on the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro before a big repair or a big spend. Then you'll know the next fork. If you share a photo of the worksheet, easier to sanity-check. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.
