Question: CPO luxury SUV or brand-new mainstream SUV?

Budget works for either a lightly used luxury SUV or a new mainstream model with a full warranty. I'm more worried about three-to-five-year ownership cost and service downtime than the purchase price. How would you compare them? If I fix it I'll come back and update the thread.

Hard-won lesson from my last deal: Call your insurer in Phoenix before you fall in love with the 2025 Honda Civic. If they balk, that's your answer. On “cpo luxury suv or brand-new mainstream suv,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. I screenshotted the quote for later.

OP here. Still looking, but I'm waiting on inspection notes before I send money on the 2025 Honda Civic. Going to compare one more dealer before I decide.

Don't send a deposit on a phone quote. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2025 Honda Civic price probably got worse. Then the comparison gets honest. Do that first. Not wiring anything in the meantime.

I hear you, though I'd still want a second check. Call your insurer in Phoenix before you fall in love with the 2025 Honda Civic. Do that before you talk monthly again. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' Not trying to scare you — just skip the expensive first guess. Going to re-read the worksheet tonight.

Get the messy numbers in writing first. GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2025 Honda Civic numbers without them. If they balk, that's your answer. On “cpo luxury suv or brand-new mainstream suv,” that was the fork that mattered for me. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. If they get vague again I'm shopping the deal elsewhere.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. Two 2025 Honda Civic quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. Doing the boring step first on purpose.

I would not stare at the monthly. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2025 Honda Civic price probably got worse. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. Do that first. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. If the title is messy I'm out, full stop.

Same neighborhood, different next step: Ask for out-the-door on the 2025 Honda Civic with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. Do that first. I'd rather be boring and correct. I'll post OTD once I have two apples-to-apples sheets.
