1968 Ford Mustang — should I negotiate the trade and purchase separately? — Philadelphia owner question

I have a trade with some equity and I am buying another car. Dealer wants to talk only in payment numbers. Would you settle sale price first, then trade value, then financing so each piece stays visible? I am in Philadelphia.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 1968 Ford Mustang price probably got worse. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. If you share a photo of the worksheet, easier to sanity-check. Not letting add-ons ride along because everyone does.

I'd want competing paper, not competing stories. Call your insurer in Philadelphia before you fall in love with the 1968 Ford Mustang. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. Sleeping on the number either way.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. Two 1968 Ford Mustang quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. Then the comparison gets honest. Stop there until you know. A day of patience here is cheaper than a wrong part. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.

Same neighborhood, different next step: Ask for out-the-door on the 1968 Ford Mustang with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. If they balk, that's your answer. On “should i negotiate the trade and purchase,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

If I were shopping this, in Philadelphia, insurance quotes flipped a 1968 Ford Mustang comparison for me more than the sale price did. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Do that first. I've seen both outcomes, which is why I'd test instead of assume. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

Treat this like a math problem, not a vibe. A written buyer’s order on the 1968 Ford Mustang is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” Do that before you talk monthly again. If you share a photo of the worksheet, easier to sanity-check. PPI guy I use is booked until next week, so I'm waiting.

OP update: I got two written quotes on the 1968 Ford Mustang and the out-the-door gap is bigger than the ads made it look. I asked for the buyer’s order in email, not a text.
