1990 Ford F-150 XLT — need advice: Buy a welder or bigger air compressor first?

SmoothHunterCommunity StarterAug 26, 20261990 Ford F-150 XLTFlorida
I do mostly home automotive work and can only justify one major shop purchase this year. Existing small compressor handles tires but not sustained air tools. Welder would unlock fabrication. Which one changed your garage more? Appreciate any ideas on what to check first.

I would not stare at the monthly. In Florida, insurance quotes flipped a 1990 Ford F-150 comparison for me more than the sale price did. Then the comparison gets honest. Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. If the title is messy I'm out, full stop.

I would not stare at the monthly. Two 1990 Ford F-150 quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. That's the part that actually changes the decision. This is from a 1990 Ford F-150 in Florida. Time, temperature, and whether it's in gear are the notes that actually help a shop. If the VIN lookup is clean I'm still doing PPI.

Insurance and tax belong in the comparison, not as a surprise. A written buyer’s order on the 1990 Ford F-150 is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “150 xlt — need advice: buy a,” that was the fork that mattered for me. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. I asked for the buyer’s order in email, not a text.

If I were shopping this, if one piece looks too good on the 1990 Ford F-150, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. That's the part that actually changes the decision. That's the whole play. I'll update if anything new shows up.

Get the messy numbers in writing first. Ask for out-the-door on the 1990 Ford F-150 with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. Do that before you talk monthly again. On “150 xlt — need advice: buy a,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Just my two cents from doing this recently. I asked for the buyer’s order in email, not a text.

Treat this like a math problem, not a vibe. A written buyer’s order on the 1990 Ford F-150 is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. I'll post OTD once I have two apples-to-apples sheets.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. Two 1990 Ford F-150 quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. Then the comparison gets honest. Time, temperature, and whether it's in gear are the notes that actually help a shop. If the title is messy I'm out, full stop.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. I would not wire money until I've seen the 1990 Ford F-150 and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. Then the comparison gets honest. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

Quick add on that: Call your insurer in Florida before you fall in love with the 1990 Ford F-150. Do that before you talk monthly again. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.

Not convinced that's the whole story. I would not wire money until I've seen the 1990 Ford F-150 and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. Then the comparison gets honest. This is from a 1990 Ford F-150 in Florida. That's the whole play. Not letting add-ons ride along because everyone does.

Walk if they won't put it on a buyer’s order. I would not wire money until I've seen the 1990 Ford F-150 and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. Then the comparison gets honest. Write the result down so the next test isn't a repeat of the last one. Doing the boring step first on purpose.

Walked a dealership this week on the 1990 Ford F-150 and the doc fee was the tell. PPI guy I use is booked until next week, so I'm waiting.
