2005 Ford F-250 — dealer keeps discussing monthly payment instead of OTD

TrailCamper931Community StarterJul 2, 20262005 Ford F-250 6.0 Power StrokeDetroit
Every time I ask for sale price and fees, the conversation goes back to monthly payment. I am bringing my own financing. Is there any reason not to insist on a full buyer order before going in?

Walk if they won't put it on a buyer’s order. In Detroit, insurance quotes flipped a 2005 Ford F-250 comparison for me more than the sale price did. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. Did the worksheet show tax yet? Doc fee is the line I'm watching.

Same neighborhood, different next step: Call your insurer in Detroit before you fall in love with the 2005 Ford F-250. Do that before you talk monthly again. On “250 — dealer keeps discussing monthly payment,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Take it or leave it — that's what I'd do. If GAP is bundled I'm making them unbundle it.

OP update: I got two written quotes on the 2005 Ford F-250 and the out-the-door gap is bigger than the ads made it look. If GAP is bundled I'm making them unbundle it.

Treat this like a math problem, not a vibe. Call your insurer in Detroit before you fall in love with the 2005 Ford F-250. Do that before you talk monthly again. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. PPI guy I use is booked until next week, so I'm waiting.

This is from a 2005 Ford F-250 in Detroit. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. Doing the boring step first on purpose.

I would not stare at the monthly. I would not wire money until I've seen the 2005 Ford F-250 and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. Then the comparison gets honest. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. Not wiring anything in the meantime.

Yes, with one caveat: Call your insurer in Detroit before you fall in love with the 2005 Ford F-250. If they balk, that's your answer. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. Going to re-read the worksheet tonight.

I hear you, though I'd still want a second check. Call your insurer in Detroit before you fall in love with the 2005 Ford F-250. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “250 — dealer keeps discussing monthly payment,” that was the fork that mattered for me. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. If they get vague again I'm shopping the deal elsewhere.

Hard-won lesson from my last deal: Call your insurer in Detroit before you fall in love with the 2005 Ford F-250. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “250 — dealer keeps discussing monthly payment,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Any freeze-frame data saved? If GAP is bundled I'm making them unbundle it.

Asking because it changes the advice: If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2005 Ford F-250 price probably got worse. Then the comparison gets honest. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. I've seen both outcomes, which is why I'd test instead of assume. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

That's a good start, but I wouldn't stop there. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2005 Ford F-250 price probably got worse. Then the comparison gets honest. This is from a 2005 Ford F-250 in Detroit. Stop there until you know. If the title is messy I'm out, full stop.

Walk if they won't put it on a buyer’s order. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2005 Ford F-250 price probably got worse. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Was this after sitting overnight? Doc fee is the line I'm watching.

Treat this like a math problem, not a vibe. GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2005 Ford F-250 numbers without them. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. This is from a 2005 Ford F-250 in Detroit. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. This is the version I'd tell a friend.

Same neighborhood, different next step: A written buyer’s order on the 2005 Ford F-250 is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” If they balk, that's your answer. On “250 — dealer keeps discussing monthly payment,” that was the fork that mattered for me. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. Wrote this up on my lunch break.

Compare apples to apples or you'll get spun. Call your insurer in Detroit before you fall in love with the 2005 Ford F-250. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. Not trying to scare you — just skip the expensive first guess. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2005 Ford F-250 price probably got worse. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. Take it or leave it — that's what I'd do. Not letting add-ons ride along because everyone does.

Don't send a deposit on a phone quote. Two 2005 Ford F-250 quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. When does it actually happen? I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.

Compare apples to apples or you'll get spun. Ask for out-the-door on the 2005 Ford F-250 with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. Do that before you talk monthly again. This is from a 2005 Ford F-250 in Detroit. When does it actually happen? Not trying to scare you — just skip the expensive first guess. I'll post OTD once I have two apples-to-apples sheets.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. Two 2005 Ford F-250 quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. This is from a 2005 Ford F-250 in Detroit. Write the result down so the next test isn't a repeat of the last one. Make the next action something you can finish this week. If the title is messy I'm out, full stop.
