2005 Ford F-250 — rolling negative equity into another car

FlatSixDIYerCommunity StarterJul 17, 20262005 Ford F-250 6.0 Power StrokeLong Island
2005 Ford F-250 6.0 Power Stroke, about 173,000 miles. Current car is worth less than the payoff and I need something different. Dealer says they can roll the difference into the new loan. I am trying to understand how ugly the math gets before doing that.

Coming back with numbers — insurance in Long Island changed the 2005 Ford F-250 comparison more than the sale price did. Not wiring anything in the meantime.

Title status is the whole conversation. A rushed deposit before you can inspect the 2005 Ford F-250 is enough reason to walk. I'd do that before spending real money. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. This is the version I'd tell a friend.

I'd treat this like cash with a paper trail. Meet at a bank or dealer title office for the 2005 Ford F-250, not a parking lot at night. I'd do that before spending real money. On “250 — rolling negative equity into another,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. I screenshotted the quote for later.

Private-party deals fail on paperwork, not vibes. Bill of sale, VIN, odometer, and names matching the title — I'd want all four on the 2005 Ford F-250. I'd do that before spending real money. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. I'll update if anything new shows up.

Private-party deals fail on paperwork, not vibes. If the 2005 Ford F-250 still shows a lien, coordinate payoff with the lender before any cash changes hands. Then you'll know the next fork. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. I've seen both outcomes, which is why I'd test instead of assume. Going to compare one more dealer before I decide.

Don't get cute with the meetup or the payment. Independent PPI on the 2005 Ford F-250 is cheap insurance versus a seller who “already had a friend look at it.” I'd do that before spending real money. Any freeze-frame data saved? Make the next action something you can finish this week. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.

Yes, with one caveat: Independent PPI on the 2005 Ford F-250 is cheap insurance versus a seller who “already had a friend look at it.” That's where I'd start. A shop burned me once by skipping that step. PPI guy I use is booked until next week, so I'm waiting.

Agree — and I'd add this: Independent PPI on the 2005 Ford F-250 is cheap insurance versus a seller who “already had a friend look at it.” I'd do that before spending real money. On “250 — rolling negative equity into another,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2005 Ford F-250 in Long Island with 173,000 miles. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. Wrote this up on my lunch break.

OP here. Still looking, but I'm waiting on inspection notes before I send money on the 2005 Ford F-250. Not letting add-ons ride along because everyone does.

I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

A shop burned me once by skipping that step. Worth doing even if the car feels fine right now. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.
