2014 Ford Mustang — surface rust underneath a winter daily

ColdStartEnthusiast797Community StarterJan 15, 20262014 Ford Mustang GTSeattle
2014 Ford Mustang GT, about 57,500 miles. There is early surface rust on brackets, fasteners and seams underneath, but nothing structural. For a salt-belt car, what treatment slows it down without creating a hard coating that traps moisture? I am in Seattle. Interested in real owner experience more than guesses.

Log the conditions before you spend. Capture voltage while the 2014 Ford Mustang is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. That's the branch I'd chase this week. On “surface rust underneath a winter daily,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Any freeze-frame data saved? If your situation is the opposite, ignore me. Heat soak after errands is the other window.

OP update: scanned the 2014 Ford Mustang again and still only have the one pending code, no new lights. I'd rather pay for diagnosis than a second guess-repair.

If it were in my driveway, loaded-suspension checks on the 2014 Ford Mustang catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. This is from a 2014 Ford Mustang in Seattle with 57,500 miles. Have you gotten a second quote in writing? I'd rather pay for diagnosis than a second guess-repair.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. Get a real battery/charging test on the 2014 Ford Mustang, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.

Ask what changed right before it started. If a shop can't duplicate it on the 2014 Ford Mustang, bring a video plus freeze-frame data, not just a story. Save the big job until that test fails. Take it or leave it — that's what I'd do. A day of patience here is cheaper than a wrong part. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.
