2016 Ford Focus — what current car has future-classic potential without hype?

ManualOwner954Community StarterJul 15, 20262016 Ford Focus STWashington DC
2016 Ford Focus ST, about 81,500 miles. Ignoring limited-production supercars, which current or recent cars have the ingredients collectors may care about later: drivetrain, design, rarity, enthusiast following, manual availability or a unique platform? I am in Washington DC. What would you check next?

Ask what changed right before it started. Two 2016 Ford Focuss can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. Just my two cents from doing this recently. Make the next action something you can finish this week. Trying not to diagnose from the couch.

OP update: scanned the 2016 Ford Focus again and still only have the one pending code, no new lights. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

Start with the test that can prove you wrong. A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2016 Ford Focus is losing coolant with no puddle. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. I'll update if anything new shows up.

Intermittent stuff lies if you only catch it once. A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2016 Ford Focus is losing coolant with no puddle. Save the big job until that test fails. On “what current car has future-classic potential without,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2016 Ford Focus in Washington DC with 81,500 miles. Stop there until you know. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2016 Ford Focus and see if the fault moves. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. Take it or leave it — that's what I'd do. If it repeats twice more I'll book time.

Log the conditions before you spend. Loaded-suspension checks on the 2016 Ford Focus catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. On “what current car has future-classic potential without,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Write the result down so the next test isn't a repeat of the last one. Parking it somewhere I can hear it better next time.

Not convinced that's the whole story. Move a coil or plug on the 2016 Ford Focus if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. No need to make it theatrical. A day of patience here is cheaper than a wrong part. Happens in gear, not in park, for what that's worth.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. Two 2016 Ford Focuss can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. That's the branch I'd chase this week. Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. I'd rather be boring and correct. Wrote this up on my lunch break.

It did what current car has future-classic potential without twice this week, both times after sitting. No change in mileage feel. Parking it somewhere I can hear it better next time.

I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. Make the next action something you can finish this week. No warning lights, which is why I'm documenting it.

Fair point. Counterpoint: Get a real battery/charging test on the 2016 Ford Focus, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. Next check is the cheap one I can do in a driveway.

Log the conditions before you spend. Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2016 Ford Focus does it — then decide on parts. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. On “what current car has future-classic potential without,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. Cold start is when I can actually reproduce it.

I wouldn't throw parts yet. Two 2016 Ford Focuss can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. This is from a 2016 Ford Focus in Washington DC with 81,500 miles. Take it or leave it — that's what I'd do. That's my plan before I call anyone.

Agree — and I'd add this: Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2016 Ford Focus does it — then decide on parts. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. This is from a 2016 Ford Focus in Washington DC with 81,500 miles. Write the result down so the next test isn't a repeat of the last one. I already checked the easy fluid levels.

I'd push back a little: Two 2016 Ford Focuss can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. Write the result down so the next test isn't a repeat of the last one. Your commute and mine probably aren't the same, but the test still applies. If it repeats twice more I'll book time.

Ask what changed right before it started. Move a coil or plug on the 2016 Ford Focus if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. Was this after sitting overnight? Not interested in a five-hour wait for a shrug.

Tried a second charger / second scan and the story on the 2016 Ford Focus didn't change. Next check is the cheap one I can do in a driveway.

Asking because it changes the advice: A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2016 Ford Focus is losing coolant with no puddle. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.

Checked the easy stuff on the 2016 Ford Focus and found one clue worth chasing before I book a shop. If that fails I'll eat the diagnostic fee.

Same neighborhood, different next step: A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2016 Ford Focus is losing coolant with no puddle. That's the branch I'd chase this week. On “what current car has future-classic potential without,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Time, temperature, and whether it's in gear are the notes that actually help a shop. Next check is the cheap one I can do in a driveway.
