2018 Chevrolet Tahoe — a/C is cold on the highway but warm at stoplights

ColdStartOwner173Community StarterJun 4, 20262018 Chevrolet Tahoe LTSacramento
The A/C works well with road speed but gets noticeably warmer at long lights, then cools again almost immediately once moving. Does that point more toward airflow/fan behavior than refrigerant level?

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. Two 2018 Chevrolet Tahoes can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. Just my two cents from doing this recently. Make the next action something you can finish this week. Only after sitting overnight so far.

Intermittent stuff lies if you only catch it once. Two 2018 Chevrolet Tahoes can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. On “a/c is cold on the highway but,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. Video is ugly but it shows the hesitation.

Log the conditions before you spend. Loaded-suspension checks on the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. Save the big job until that test fails. On “a/c is cold on the highway but,” that was the fork that mattered for me. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. I keep a notes app thread for this now.

I wouldn't throw parts yet. Get a real battery/charging test on the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. Save the big job until that test fails. Have you gotten a second quote in writing? Your commute and mine probably aren't the same, but the test still applies. Wrote this up on my lunch break.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. Capture voltage while the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. This is from a 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe in Sacramento. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' Not trying to scare you — just skip the expensive first guess. I'd rather pay for diagnosis than a second guess-repair.

Start with the test that can prove you wrong. Move a coil or plug on the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. Save the big job until that test fails. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' Not driving it hard until I know more.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. Two 2018 Chevrolet Tahoes can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. This is from a 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe in Sacramento. No need to make it theatrical. A day of patience here is cheaper than a wrong part. I already checked the easy fluid levels.

If it were in my driveway, swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe and see if the fault moves. Save the big job until that test fails. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. I'd rather be boring and correct. Next check is the cheap one I can do in a driveway.

This is the version I'd tell a friend.

Ask what changed right before it started. Move a coil or plug on the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. Take it or leave it — that's what I'd do. I refuse to clear codes until someone else sees them.

Start with the test that can prove you wrong. A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe is losing coolant with no puddle. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. This is from a 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe in Sacramento. No need to make it theatrical. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. I refuse to clear codes until someone else sees them.
