2018 Infiniti Q50 — check-engine light turned itself off — still scan it?

TrackEnthusiastCommunity StarterMay 9, 20262018 Infiniti Q50 Red SportOrange County
This started as a small annoyance and I finally decided to track it down. 2018 Infiniti Q50 Red Sport, about 72,000 miles. The light was on for two days and then disappeared before I could schedule service. Car feels normal. Is there still likely to be useful stored or pending data if I scan it now?

Log the conditions before you spend. A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2018 Infiniti Q50 is losing coolant with no puddle. Save the big job until that test fails. On “check-engine light turned itself off — still,” that was the fork that mattered for me. That's the sequence I'd use. I'll poke at it this weekend.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. Loaded-suspension checks on the 2018 Infiniti Q50 catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. Write the result down so the next test isn't a repeat of the last one. Not interested in a five-hour wait for a shrug.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2018 Infiniti Q50 is losing coolant with no puddle. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. Any freeze-frame data saved? I'd sleep better after that step, even if it finds nothing. That's my plan before I call anyone.

Tried a second charger / second scan and the story on the 2018 Infiniti Q50 didn't change. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

I wouldn't throw parts yet. Two 2018 Infiniti Q50s can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. Do that first. I already checked the easy fluid levels.

Start with the test that can prove you wrong. Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2018 Infiniti Q50 and see if the fault moves. Save the big job until that test fails. A shop burned me once by skipping that step. Worth doing even if the car feels fine right now. Not interested in a five-hour wait for a shrug.

Log the conditions before you spend. Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2018 Infiniti Q50 does it — then decide on parts. Save the big job until that test fails. On “check-engine light turned itself off — still,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. If that fails I'll eat the diagnostic fee.

If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

If it were in my driveway, capture voltage while the 2018 Infiniti Q50 is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. This is from a 2018 Infiniti Q50 in Orange County with 72,000 miles. Just my two cents from doing this recently. If that fails I'll eat the diagnostic fee.

Checking again after work.

Ask what changed right before it started. Get a real battery/charging test on the 2018 Infiniti Q50, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. If you share a photo of the worksheet, easier to sanity-check. This is the version I'd tell a friend.

Ask what changed right before it started. Move a coil or plug on the 2018 Infiniti Q50 if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. This is from a 2018 Infiniti Q50 in Orange County with 72,000 miles. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

Update: the cheap test changed the symptom, so I'm not throwing parts yet. Happens in gear, not in park, for what that's worth.
