2018 Kia Optima — should I negotiate the trade and purchase separately?

2018 Kia Optima EX, about 102,500 miles. I have a trade with some equity and I am buying another car. Dealer wants to talk only in payment numbers. Would you settle sale price first, then trade value, then financing so each piece stays visible? I am in Bay Area. If I figure it out I will update the thread.

Write down what you already tried. A second data point from another 2018 Kia Optima owner helps more than a generic diagnosis. I'd do that before spending real money. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.
