2020 Kia Stinger — dealer trade versus instant offer versus private sale

NoMarkupGarage716Community StarterAug 6, 20262020 Kia Stinger GT2Austin
2020 Kia Stinger GT2, about 116,000 miles. I am selling a clean late-model car and have three options: trade it, take an instant cash offer, or list privately. How do you decide when the extra private-party money is worth the time and risk?

I'd treat this like cash with a paper trail. A rushed deposit before you can inspect the 2020 Kia Stinger is enough reason to walk. I'd do that before spending real money. On “dealer trade versus instant offer versus private,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

Asking because it changes the advice: Bill of sale, VIN, odometer, and names matching the title — I'd want all four on the 2020 Kia Stinger. That's where I'd start. Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. Not wiring anything in the meantime.

OP here. Still looking, but I'm waiting on inspection notes before I send money on the 2020 Kia Stinger. If they only talk monthly I'm walking.

I'd treat this like cash with a paper trail. Meet at a bank or dealer title office for the 2020 Kia Stinger, not a parking lot at night. I'd do that before spending real money. On “dealer trade versus instant offer versus private,” that was the fork that mattered for me. That's the sequence I'd use. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

PPI is scheduled. I'm not depositing until I see the 2020 Kia Stinger notes. Going to compare one more dealer before I decide.

Walked a dealership this week on the 2020 Kia Stinger (116,000 miles) and the doc fee was the tell. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

I asked about dealer trade versus instant offer versus private again and they still won't put GAP/add-ons on their own lines. Calling insurance in the morning before I reply to the desk.

Title status is the whole conversation. A rushed deposit before you can inspect the 2020 Kia Stinger is enough reason to walk. That's where I'd start. That's the whole play. Going to re-read the worksheet tonight.

That's my plan before I call anyone.

I'd treat this like cash with a paper trail. Independent PPI on the 2020 Kia Stinger is cheap insurance versus a seller who “already had a friend look at it.” Then you'll know the next fork. On “dealer trade versus instant offer versus private,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Write the result down so the next test isn't a repeat of the last one. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. I screenshotted the quote for later.

Private-party deals fail on paperwork, not vibes. If the 2020 Kia Stinger still shows a lien, coordinate payoff with the lender before any cash changes hands. I'd do that before spending real money. Have you gotten a second quote in writing? This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

Don't get cute with the meetup or the payment. Meet at a bank or dealer title office for the 2020 Kia Stinger, not a parking lot at night. I'd do that before spending real money. No need to make it theatrical. I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.

Update from me: I finally have sale price, fees, and trade on separate lines for the 2020 Kia Stinger. This is the version I'd tell a friend.

Coming back with numbers — insurance in Austin changed the 2020 Kia Stinger comparison more than the sale price did. Calling insurance in the morning before I reply to the desk.
