2020 Kia Stinger — two nearly identical cars are priced $4k apart

WeekendDaily603Community StarterNov 8, 20252020 Kia Stinger GT2Portland
2020 Kia Stinger GT2, about 82,000 miles. Same year, trim and similar mileage, but two listings are thousands apart. One is CPO and one is not. How would you quantify condition, warranty, history and dealer reputation?

I'd treat this like cash with a paper trail. A rushed deposit before you can inspect the 2020 Kia Stinger is enough reason to walk. That's where I'd start. On “two nearly identical cars are priced $4k,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Write the result down so the next test isn't a repeat of the last one. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. That's my plan before I call anyone.

Private-party deals fail on paperwork, not vibes. If the 2020 Kia Stinger still shows a lien, coordinate payoff with the lender before any cash changes hands. That's where I'd start. Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. Your commute and mine probably aren't the same, but the test still applies. I'll update if anything new shows up.

Agree — and I'd add this: A rushed deposit before you can inspect the 2020 Kia Stinger is enough reason to walk. I'd do that before spending real money. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

Update from me: I finally have sale price, fees, and trade on separate lines for the 2020 Kia Stinger. I'll post OTD once I have two apples-to-apples sheets.

Title status is the whole conversation. A rushed deposit before you can inspect the 2020 Kia Stinger is enough reason to walk. I'd do that before spending real money. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.

Don't get cute with the meetup or the payment. If the 2020 Kia Stinger still shows a lien, coordinate payoff with the lender before any cash changes hands. That's where I'd start. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. If the title is messy I'm out, full stop.

Same neighborhood, different next step: If the 2020 Kia Stinger still shows a lien, coordinate payoff with the lender before any cash changes hands. Then you'll know the next fork. Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. I'd rather be boring and correct. This is the version I'd tell a friend.

I asked about two nearly identical cars are priced $4k again and they still won't put GAP/add-ons on their own lines. If the title is messy I'm out, full stop.

I'd treat this like cash with a paper trail. Independent PPI on the 2020 Kia Stinger is cheap insurance versus a seller who “already had a friend look at it.” Then you'll know the next fork. On “two nearly identical cars are priced $4k,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. Climate here is different, so treat that as a local data point. I asked for the buyer’s order in email, not a text.

Don't get cute with the meetup or the payment. Meet at a bank or dealer title office for the 2020 Kia Stinger, not a parking lot at night. That's where I'd start. This is from a 2020 Kia Stinger in Portland with 82,000 miles. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' If the title is messy I'm out, full stop.

Fair point. Counterpoint: Bill of sale, VIN, odometer, and names matching the title — I'd want all four on the 2020 Kia Stinger. I'd do that before spending real money. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. If the title is messy I'm out, full stop.

If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. Not letting add-ons ride along because everyone does.

Walked a dealership this week on the 2020 Kia Stinger (82,000 miles) and the doc fee was the tell. PPI guy I use is booked until next week, so I'm waiting.

If the VIN lookup is clean I'm still doing PPI.
