2022 Ford Maverick — hybrid fuel economy dropped with no warning light — second opinion before I spend money

OldSchoolDIYer812Community StarterDec 23, 20252022 Ford Maverick XLT HybridBoston
2022 Ford Maverick XLT Hybrid, about 87,000 miles. Same commute and driver, but average MPG is down noticeably. Tires are properly inflated. What hybrid-specific data would you inspect before blaming the high-voltage battery?

I wouldn't throw parts yet. Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2022 Ford Maverick does it — then decide on parts. That's the branch I'd chase this week. Stop there until you know. I refuse to clear codes until someone else sees them.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. Get a real battery/charging test on the 2022 Ford Maverick, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. A shop burned me once by skipping that step. That's my plan before I call anyone.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. Two 2022 Ford Mavericks can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. Wrote this up on my lunch break.

Start with the test that can prove you wrong. Get a real battery/charging test on the 2022 Ford Maverick, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. Not driving it hard until I know more.

If it were in my driveway, move a coil or plug on the 2022 Ford Maverick if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. I'd sleep better after that step, even if it finds nothing. Wrote this up on my lunch break.

Ask what changed right before it started. Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2022 Ford Maverick does it — then decide on parts. Save the big job until that test fails. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. A day of patience here is cheaper than a wrong part. Video is ugly but it shows the hesitation.

Intermittent stuff lies if you only catch it once. If a shop can't duplicate it on the 2022 Ford Maverick, bring a video plus freeze-frame data, not just a story. That's the branch I'd chase this week. On “hybrid fuel economy dropped with no warning,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Stop there until you know. This is the version I'd tell a friend.
