2022 Volkswagen GTI — are cars becoming too dependent on one screen or module?

2022 Volkswagen GTI SE, about 89,500 miles. More basic vehicle functions now route through software and central displays. I like the features, but worry about one electronics failure affecting unrelated systems. Where should physical redundancy remain?

Software recalls make me ask how much of 'driving' lives in a module now. On a 2022 Volkswagen GTI, I'd care more about the remedy and downtime than the press wording. That's where I'd start. Any freeze-frame data saved? I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.

Software recalls make me ask how much of 'driving' lives in a module now. Check whether your 2022 Volkswagen GTI VIN is actually in the affected batch before you plan a dealer day. That's where I'd start. On “are cars becoming too dependent on one,” that was the fork that mattered for me. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

Software recalls make me ask how much of 'driving' lives in a module now. If this is a 2027 reveal, I wouldn't map it onto today's 2022 Volkswagen GTI ownership costs yet. I'd do that before spending real money. No need to make it theatrical. I'll update if anything new shows up.
