2022 Volkswagen GTI — check-engine light turned itself off — still scan it?

TowTunerCommunity StarterJan 4, 20262022 Volkswagen GTI SEBrooklyn
2022 Volkswagen GTI SE, about 69,500 miles. The light was on for two days and then disappeared before I could schedule service. Car feels normal. Is there still likely to be useful stored or pending data if I scan it now? I would rather test this logically than replace parts. I am trying not to assume the first explanation I see online.

Intermittent stuff lies if you only catch it once. A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2022 Volkswagen GTI is losing coolant with no puddle. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. On “check-engine light turned itself off — still,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Did the worksheet show tax yet? Happens in gear, not in park, for what that's worth.

That's a good start, but I wouldn't stop there. A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2022 Volkswagen GTI is losing coolant with no puddle. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. This is from a 2022 Volkswagen GTI in Brooklyn with 69,500 miles. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. Parking it somewhere I can hear it better next time.

Log the conditions before you spend. Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2022 Volkswagen GTI does it — then decide on parts. That's the branch I'd chase this week. On “check-engine light turned itself off — still,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Stop there until you know. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

I wouldn't throw parts yet. Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2022 Volkswagen GTI and see if the fault moves. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. This is from a 2022 Volkswagen GTI in Brooklyn with 69,500 miles. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. I'll update if anything new shows up.

Ask what changed right before it started. Get a real battery/charging test on the 2022 Volkswagen GTI, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. Save the big job until that test fails. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. Next check is the cheap one I can do in a driveway.

Log the conditions before you spend. Move a coil or plug on the 2022 Volkswagen GTI if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. On “check-engine light turned itself off — still,” that was the fork that mattered for me. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. Not interested in a five-hour wait for a shrug.

I wouldn't throw parts yet. Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2022 Volkswagen GTI does it — then decide on parts. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. If it repeats twice more I'll book time.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2022 Volkswagen GTI and see if the fault moves. Save the big job until that test fails. This is from a 2022 Volkswagen GTI in Brooklyn with 69,500 miles. Stop there until you know. That's my plan before I call anyone.

Start with the test that can prove you wrong. Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2022 Volkswagen GTI does it — then decide on parts. Save the big job until that test fails. This is from a 2022 Volkswagen GTI in Brooklyn with 69,500 miles. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. Worth doing even if the car feels fine right now. I'll update if anything new shows up.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. Two 2022 Volkswagen GTIs can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. If you share a photo of the worksheet, easier to sanity-check. I'd rather be boring and correct. Next check is the cheap one I can do in a driveway.

Same neighborhood, different next step: Capture voltage while the 2022 Volkswagen GTI is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. On “check-engine light turned itself off — still,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. I've seen both outcomes, which is why I'd test instead of assume. I'll update if anything new shows up.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2022 Volkswagen GTI and see if the fault moves. Save the big job until that test fails. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. A day of patience here is cheaper than a wrong part. If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.

Asking because it changes the advice: Get a real battery/charging test on the 2022 Volkswagen GTI, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. Do that first. Only after sitting overnight so far.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. If a shop can't duplicate it on the 2022 Volkswagen GTI, bring a video plus freeze-frame data, not just a story. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. Stop there until you know. I'd rather pay for diagnosis than a second guess-repair.
