2022 Volvo XC90 — no crank with full dash power, then it starts later

RustBeltDIYer959Community StarterApr 3, 20262022 Volvo XC90 RechargeCleveland
This started as a small annoyance and I finally decided to track it down. Twice I have had full lights and accessories but no crank. After waiting a few minutes it starts normally. Battery terminals look clean. What would you want to measure during the actual failure? I am in Cleveland.

Intermittent stuff lies if you only catch it once. Move a coil or plug on the 2022 Volvo XC90 if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. Save the big job until that test fails. On “no crank with full dash power, then,” that was the fork that mattered for me. If you share a photo of the worksheet, easier to sanity-check. I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.

Quick add on that: Move a coil or plug on the 2022 Volvo XC90 if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. Save the big job until that test fails. That's the whole play. Trying not to diagnose from the couch.

Start with the test that can prove you wrong. Two 2022 Volvo XC90s can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. This is from a 2022 Volvo XC90 in Cleveland. That's the whole play. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

Tried a second charger / second scan and the story on the 2022 Volvo XC90 didn't change. Wrote this up on my lunch break.

Update: the cheap test changed the symptom, so I'm not throwing parts yet. If that fails I'll eat the diagnostic fee.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. If a shop can't duplicate it on the 2022 Volvo XC90, bring a video plus freeze-frame data, not just a story. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. Do that first. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. Cold start is when I can actually reproduce it.

I went back under the 2022 Volvo XC90 and it only happens after a heat soak, not on a cold start. This is the version I'd tell a friend.

OP update: scanned the 2022 Volvo XC90 again and still only have the one pending code, no new lights. I'd rather pay for diagnosis than a second guess-repair.

Log the conditions before you spend. Capture voltage while the 2022 Volvo XC90 is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. That's the branch I'd chase this week. On “no crank with full dash power, then,” that was the fork that mattered for me. That's the sequence I'd use. Parking it somewhere I can hear it better next time.

Ask what changed right before it started. Capture voltage while the 2022 Volvo XC90 is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. Did the worksheet show tax yet? I'll poke at it this weekend.

Agree — and I'd add this: A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2022 Volvo XC90 is losing coolant with no puddle. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. I'd rather be boring and correct. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

Cleared nothing. I want service to see the alert on the 2022 Volvo XC90 first. No warning lights, which is why I'm documenting it.

Start with the test that can prove you wrong. Loaded-suspension checks on the 2022 Volvo XC90 catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. That's the branch I'd chase this week. This is from a 2022 Volvo XC90 in Cleveland. Did the worksheet show tax yet? I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2022 Volvo XC90 does it — then decide on parts. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. Did the worksheet show tax yet? If it repeats twice more I'll book time.

Not convinced that's the whole story. Get a real battery/charging test on the 2022 Volvo XC90, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. That's my plan before I call anyone.

It did no crank with full dash power, then twice this week, both times after sitting. No change in mileage feel. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.
