2023 GMC Sierra 1500 — buyer wants to pay with cashier check on a weekend

RotorDaily862Community StarterMay 18, 20262023 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4New York
A buyer wants to meet Saturday when my bank is closed and use a cashier check. I am not accusing them of anything; I just want a payment method I can actually verify before signing over the car. I am in New York. Mostly looking for the right next step.

I'd treat this like cash with a paper trail. A rushed deposit before you can inspect the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 is enough reason to walk. I'd do that before spending real money. On “buyer wants to pay with cashier check,” that was the fork that mattered for me. That's the sequence I'd use. If GAP is bundled I'm making them unbundle it.

OP update: I got two written quotes on the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 and the out-the-door gap is bigger than the ads made it look. Wrote this up on my lunch break.

Walked a dealership this week on the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 and the doc fee was the tell. Going to re-read the worksheet tonight.

Private-party deals fail on paperwork, not vibes. Meet at a bank or dealer title office for the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500, not a parking lot at night. I'd do that before spending real money. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. I've seen both outcomes, which is why I'd test instead of assume. Doc fee is the line I'm watching.

Don't get cute with the meetup or the payment. Bill of sale, VIN, odometer, and names matching the title — I'd want all four on the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500. I'd do that before spending real money. This is from a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 in New York. No need to make it theatrical. Calling insurance in the morning before I reply to the desk.

Fair point. Counterpoint: A rushed deposit before you can inspect the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 is enough reason to walk. Then you'll know the next fork. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' A day of patience here is cheaper than a wrong part. If the title is messy I'm out, full stop.

That's a good start, but I wouldn't stop there. If the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 still shows a lien, coordinate payoff with the lender before any cash changes hands. I'd do that before spending real money. Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. Not letting add-ons ride along because everyone does.

Quick update: a second 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 quote made the first offer look ordinary. I screenshotted the quote for later.

Private-party deals fail on paperwork, not vibes. Independent PPI on the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 is cheap insurance versus a seller who “already had a friend look at it.” I'd do that before spending real money. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' Worth doing even if the car feels fine right now. Not letting add-ons ride along because everyone does.

This is from a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 in New York. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.

Just my two cents from doing this recently. Make the next action something you can finish this week. I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.

When does it actually happen? Your commute and mine probably aren't the same, but the test still applies. If they only talk monthly I'm walking.

I asked about buyer wants to pay with cashier check again and they still won't put GAP/add-ons on their own lines. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.
