2023 GMC Sierra 1500 — surface rust underneath a winter daily

BoostWrenchCommunity StarterSep 4, 20262023 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4North Jersey
2023 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4, about 67,000 miles. There is early surface rust on brackets, fasteners and seams underneath, but nothing structural. For a salt-belt car, what treatment slows it down without creating a hard coating that traps moisture?

I'd pick the setup I'll actually live with in slush. Watch brake clearance and overall diameter if you downsize winter wheels on the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500. Then you'll know the next fork. This is from a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 in North Jersey with 67,000 miles. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. If it repeats twice more I'll book time.

Salt and cold mornings punish cheap shortcuts. In North Jersey, dedicated winters on the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 paid off more than I expected on ice, even on plowed roads. That's where I'd start. On “surface rust underneath a winter daily,” that was the fork that mattered for me. When does it actually happen? Climate here is different, so treat that as a local data point. This is the version I'd tell a friend.

Salt and cold mornings punish cheap shortcuts. If North Jersey only sees a few real storms, a good all-weather on the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 can be the saner daily. I'd do that before spending real money. Do that first. Not driving it hard until I know more.

Following up on surface rust underneath a winter daily: still happening, but I have better notes now. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

I parked the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 and wrote down what I already tested so I'm not repeating myself. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.

Fair point. Counterpoint: Watch brake clearance and overall diameter if you downsize winter wheels on the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500. Then you'll know the next fork. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. Your commute and mine probably aren't the same, but the test still applies. If it repeats twice more I'll book time.

Asking because it changes the advice: In North Jersey, dedicated winters on the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 paid off more than I expected on ice, even on plowed roads. That's where I'd start. Stop there until you know. Wrote this up on my lunch break.

This is a climate question as much as a tire question. In North Jersey, dedicated winters on the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 paid off more than I expected on ice, even on plowed roads. I'd do that before spending real money. On “surface rust underneath a winter daily,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. I already checked the easy fluid levels.

Yes, with one caveat: In North Jersey, dedicated winters on the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 paid off more than I expected on ice, even on plowed roads. Then you'll know the next fork. This is from a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 in North Jersey with 67,000 miles. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. I'd rather be boring and correct. Cold start is when I can actually reproduce it.

Not convinced that's the whole story. If North Jersey only sees a few real storms, a good all-weather on the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 can be the saner daily. Then you'll know the next fork. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. A day of patience here is cheaper than a wrong part. Heat soak after errands is the other window.
