2023 Kia Telluride — trade has positive equity — apply it or take the money?

DealHaulerCommunity StarterDec 1, 20252023 Kia Telluride SX PrestigePortland
2023 Kia Telluride SX Prestige, about 9,000 miles. My trade is worth more than the payoff. I am deciding whether to use the equity in the next purchase or keep the transactions separate. What are the practical pros and cons?

Get the messy numbers in writing first. A written buyer’s order on the 2023 Kia Telluride is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” If they balk, that's your answer. On “trade has positive equity — apply it,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. I asked for the buyer’s order in email, not a text.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. I would not wire money until I've seen the 2023 Kia Telluride and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. I'll update if anything new shows up.

Yes, with one caveat: A written buyer’s order on the 2023 Kia Telluride is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. I'd rather be boring and correct. PPI guy I use is booked until next week, so I'm waiting.

Treat this like a math problem, not a vibe. Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2023 Kia Telluride so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. Do that before you talk monthly again. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.

Don't send a deposit on a phone quote. I would not wire money until I've seen the 2023 Kia Telluride and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. This is from a 2023 Kia Telluride in Portland with 9,000 miles. Just my two cents from doing this recently. If the VIN lookup is clean I'm still doing PPI.

Insurance and tax belong in the comparison, not as a surprise. GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2023 Kia Telluride numbers without them. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “trade has positive equity — apply it,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2023 Kia Telluride in Portland with 9,000 miles. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. That's my plan before I call anyone.

If I were shopping this, i would not wire money until I've seen the 2023 Kia Telluride and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. This is from a 2023 Kia Telluride in Portland with 9,000 miles. Time, temperature, and whether it's in gear are the notes that actually help a shop. Worth doing even if the car feels fine right now. I'll update if anything new shows up.

Yes, with one caveat: Call your insurer in Portland before you fall in love with the 2023 Kia Telluride. If they balk, that's your answer. On “trade has positive equity — apply it,” that was the fork that mattered for me. That's the whole play. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. I asked for the buyer’s order in email, not a text.

PPI is scheduled. I'm not depositing until I see the 2023 Kia Telluride notes. Going to compare one more dealer before I decide.

I'd want competing paper, not competing stories. Call your insurer in Portland before you fall in love with the 2023 Kia Telluride. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. PPI guy I use is booked until next week, so I'm waiting.

I would not stare at the monthly. I would not wire money until I've seen the 2023 Kia Telluride and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. Then the comparison gets honest. Do that first. If the story changes I'll post the new data.
