2023 Rivian R1T — catalyst efficiency code but car drives normally

WeekendEnthusiast189Community StarterJul 21, 20262023 Rivian R1T Quad-MotorCleveland
A catalyst efficiency code came back after clearing once. The car drives normally and there are no misfire codes. Before condemning the catalytic converter, what sensor/data checks are worth doing? I am in Cleveland. I would rather test this logically than replace parts.

I wouldn't throw parts yet. Two 2023 Rivian R1Ts can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. A shop burned me once by skipping that step. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. Two 2023 Rivian R1Ts can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. That's the branch I'd chase this week. Write the result down so the next test isn't a repeat of the last one. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2023 Rivian R1T does it — then decide on parts. Save the big job until that test fails. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. Trying not to diagnose from the couch.

If it were in my driveway, move a coil or plug on the 2023 Rivian R1T if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. If you share a photo of the worksheet, easier to sanity-check. I'd rather be boring and correct. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

Fair point. Counterpoint: Capture voltage while the 2023 Rivian R1T is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. I'll update if anything new shows up.

Same neighborhood, different next step: Two 2023 Rivian R1Ts can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. That's the branch I'd chase this week. On “catalyst efficiency code but car drives normally,” that was the fork that mattered for me. A shop burned me once by skipping that step. No warning lights, which is why I'm documenting it.
