2023 Rivian R1T — pPI found $1,800 of upcoming work

UsedCarGuy283Community StarterJun 16, 20262023 Rivian R1T Quad-MotorPhoenix
Inspection found several real maintenance items but nothing catastrophic. I still like the car. Do you treat the shop estimate as a dollar-for-dollar negotiation point or just decide whether the asking price still makes sense? I am in Phoenix. Mileage is about 112,000.

OP here. Still looking, but I'm waiting on inspection notes before I send money on the 2023 Rivian R1T. Doc fee is the line I'm watching.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2023 Rivian R1T price probably got worse. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Just my two cents from doing this recently. Not letting add-ons ride along because everyone does.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. If one piece looks too good on the 2023 Rivian R1T, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. That's the part that actually changes the decision. This is from a 2023 Rivian R1T in Phoenix. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' If the VIN lookup is clean I'm still doing PPI.

Coming back with numbers — insurance in Phoenix changed the 2023 Rivian R1T comparison more than the sale price did. Not wiring anything in the meantime.

Quick add on that: A written buyer’s order on the 2023 Rivian R1T is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “ppi found $1,800 of upcoming work,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Time, temperature, and whether it's in gear are the notes that actually help a shop. If your situation is the opposite, ignore me. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

Get the messy numbers in writing first. A written buyer’s order on the 2023 Rivian R1T is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” Do that before you talk monthly again. On “ppi found $1,800 of upcoming work,” that was the fork that mattered for me. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' I screenshotted the quote for later.

Quick add on that: Call your insurer in Phoenix before you fall in love with the 2023 Rivian R1T. Do that before you talk monthly again. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. I'll post OTD once I have two apples-to-apples sheets.

If I were shopping this, if they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2023 Rivian R1T price probably got worse. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. This is from a 2023 Rivian R1T in Phoenix. Write the result down so the next test isn't a repeat of the last one. Your commute and mine probably aren't the same, but the test still applies. I'll update if anything new shows up.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. I would not wire money until I've seen the 2023 Rivian R1T and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. Doc fee is the line I'm watching.

OP update: I got two written quotes on the 2023 Rivian R1T and the out-the-door gap is bigger than the ads made it look. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

Compare apples to apples or you'll get spun. Call your insurer in Phoenix before you fall in love with the 2023 Rivian R1T. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. I'll post OTD once I have two apples-to-apples sheets.

Yes, with one caveat: Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2023 Rivian R1T so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. If they balk, that's your answer. On “ppi found $1,800 of upcoming work,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2023 Rivian R1T in Phoenix. When does it actually happen? I asked for the buyer’s order in email, not a text.
