2023 Rivian R1T — seller will not allow a pre-purchase inspection

ProjectNomad264Community StarterJun 18, 20262023 Rivian R1T Quad-MotorAustin
Car looks clean and the price is fair, but seller says they do not have time for a PPI because other buyers are interested. Would you treat that as an automatic walk-away?

Update from me: I finally have sale price, fees, and trade on separate lines for the 2023 Rivian R1T. I'll post OTD once I have two apples-to-apples sheets.

Walked a dealership this week on the 2023 Rivian R1T and the doc fee was the tell. I'll post OTD once I have two apples-to-apples sheets.

I'd treat this like cash with a paper trail. A rushed deposit before you can inspect the 2023 Rivian R1T is enough reason to walk. I'd do that before spending real money. On “seller will not allow a pre-purchase inspection,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Write the result down so the next test isn't a repeat of the last one. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. That's my plan before I call anyone.

That's a good start, but I wouldn't stop there. Independent PPI on the 2023 Rivian R1T is cheap insurance versus a seller who “already had a friend look at it.” Then you'll know the next fork. Take it or leave it — that's what I'd do. A day of patience here is cheaper than a wrong part. I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.

Fair point. Counterpoint: A rushed deposit before you can inspect the 2023 Rivian R1T is enough reason to walk. I'd do that before spending real money. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. Going to compare one more dealer before I decide.

Private-party deals fail on paperwork, not vibes. If the 2023 Rivian R1T still shows a lien, coordinate payoff with the lender before any cash changes hands. Then you'll know the next fork. No need to make it theatrical. If they only talk monthly I'm walking.

Asking because it changes the advice: Meet at a bank or dealer title office for the 2023 Rivian R1T, not a parking lot at night. That's where I'd start. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. Going to compare one more dealer before I decide.

Title status is the whole conversation. Bill of sale, VIN, odometer, and names matching the title — I'd want all four on the 2023 Rivian R1T. Then you'll know the next fork. This is from a 2023 Rivian R1T in Austin. A shop burned me once by skipping that step. If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.

Don't get cute with the meetup or the payment. Meet at a bank or dealer title office for the 2023 Rivian R1T, not a parking lot at night. I'd do that before spending real money. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.

If your situation is the opposite, ignore me. I screenshotted the quote for later.

If GAP is bundled I'm making them unbundle it.

Quick add on that: Independent PPI on the 2023 Rivian R1T is cheap insurance versus a seller who “already had a friend look at it.” Then you'll know the next fork. On “seller will not allow a pre-purchase inspection,” that was the fork that mattered for me. When does it actually happen? I asked for the buyer’s order in email, not a text.
