2023 Subaru Outback Wilderness — need advice: Do shorter oil intervals actually make sense for my use?

BoxerGeekCommunity StarterMay 29, 20262023 Subaru Outback WildernessDenver / Front Range
Most of my driving is short trips with a lot of idling, but the factory interval is pretty long. I'd rather not waste oil, but I also plan to keep the car past 150k. How would you set an interval based on use instead of just mileage? Any data points from owners would help.

Useful. I'll report back after I verify that on my 2023 Subaru Outback. Doing the boring step first on purpose.

Write down what you already tried. A second data point from another 2023 Subaru Outback owner helps more than a generic diagnosis. I'd do that before spending real money. This is from a 2023 Subaru Outback in Denver / Front Range. If you share a photo of the worksheet, easier to sanity-check. This is the version I'd tell a friend.

Don't overfit one forum story to your car. If it still isn't clear on the 2023 Subaru Outback, a specialist hour can be cheaper than another round of parts. Then you'll know the next fork. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. Make the next action something you can finish this week. I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.

I'd keep this practical. Verify the cheap/easy branch on the 2023 Subaru Outback before a big repair or a big spend. Then you'll know the next fork. Did the worksheet show tax yet? I've seen both outcomes, which is why I'd test instead of assume. I'll update if anything new shows up.

Owner notes beat generic advice here. On the 2023 Subaru Outback in Denver / Front Range, I'd fix the thing you'll notice every day before chasing spec-sheet extras. Then you'll know the next fork. On “need advice: do shorter oil intervals actually,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

Same neighborhood, different next step: On the 2023 Subaru Outback in Denver / Front Range, I'd fix the thing you'll notice every day before chasing spec-sheet extras. I'd do that before spending real money. On “need advice: do shorter oil intervals actually,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Was this after sitting overnight? Wrote this up on my lunch break.
