2024 Audi Q5 — when does GAP actually make sense?

RoadTripFanCommunity StarterJun 18, 20262024 Audi Q5 Premium PlusQueens
2024 Audi Q5 Premium Plus, about 15,000 miles. I am financing most of the purchase and depreciation could be steep early on. How do you decide whether GAP is worthwhile versus a larger down payment or buying coverage elsewhere? I would rather test this logically than replace parts.

Walk if they won't put it on a buyer’s order. Two 2024 Audi Q5 quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. When does it actually happen? I've seen both outcomes, which is why I'd test instead of assume. Doing the boring step first on purpose.

If I were shopping this, two 2024 Audi Q5 quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. That's the part that actually changes the decision. This is from a 2024 Audi Q5 in Queens with 15,000 miles. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. If they only talk monthly I'm walking.

Update from me: I finally have sale price, fees, and trade on separate lines for the 2024 Audi Q5. Going to re-read the worksheet tonight.

Fair point. Counterpoint: Two 2024 Audi Q5 quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. Then the comparison gets honest. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. Not wiring anything in the meantime.

Treat this like a math problem, not a vibe. Call your insurer in Queens before you fall in love with the 2024 Audi Q5. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. Do that first. I'd rather be boring and correct. Sleeping on the number either way.

Insurance and tax belong in the comparison, not as a surprise. Ask for out-the-door on the 2024 Audi Q5 with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. If they balk, that's your answer. On “when does gap actually make sense,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. If GAP is bundled I'm making them unbundle it.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. Two 2024 Audi Q5 quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. That's the part that actually changes the decision. This is from a 2024 Audi Q5 in Queens with 15,000 miles. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. Going to compare one more dealer before I decide.

OP update: I got two written quotes on the 2024 Audi Q5 and the out-the-door gap is bigger than the ads made it look. If GAP is bundled I'm making them unbundle it.

Fair point. Counterpoint: If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2024 Audi Q5 price probably got worse. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. This is from a 2024 Audi Q5 in Queens with 15,000 miles. Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. Going to compare one more dealer before I decide.

Compare apples to apples or you'll get spun. GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2024 Audi Q5 numbers without them. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. Stop there until you know. This is the version I'd tell a friend.

That's the part that actually changes the decision. No need to make it theatrical. Your commute and mine probably aren't the same, but the test still applies. Doing the boring step first on purpose.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2024 Audi Q5 price probably got worse. That's the part that actually changes the decision. This is from a 2024 Audi Q5 in Queens with 15,000 miles. Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

Hard-won lesson from my last deal: GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2024 Audi Q5 numbers without them. Do that before you talk monthly again. On “when does gap actually make sense,” that was the fork that mattered for me. A shop burned me once by skipping that step. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

Quick update: a second 2024 Audi Q5 quote made the first offer look ordinary. If GAP is bundled I'm making them unbundle it.

That's a good start, but I wouldn't stop there. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2024 Audi Q5 price probably got worse. That's the part that actually changes the decision. No need to make it theatrical. Make the next action something you can finish this week. Calling insurance in the morning before I reply to the desk.
