2024 BMW i4 — dealer APR is higher than my credit-union preapproval

RoadDaily99Community StarterJan 24, 20262024 BMW i4 eDrive40Long Island
2024 BMW i4 eDrive40, about 22,500 miles. I have a preapproval in hand and the dealer offered a higher rate. Is there any reason to let them try to beat it, and how should I compare lender fees or incentives instead of only APR?

Get the messy numbers in writing first. GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2024 BMW i4 numbers without them. Do that before you talk monthly again. On “dealer apr is higher than my credit-union,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. Wrote this up on my lunch break.

Quick add on that: Ask for out-the-door on the 2024 BMW i4 with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. If they balk, that's your answer. The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. Two 2024 BMW i4 quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. Then the comparison gets honest. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. Not letting add-ons ride along because everyone does.

Compare apples to apples or you'll get spun. Call your insurer in Long Island before you fall in love with the 2024 BMW i4. Do that before you talk monthly again. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. Not trying to scare you — just skip the expensive first guess. I'll post OTD once I have two apples-to-apples sheets.

I would not stare at the monthly. Two 2024 BMW i4 quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. That's the part that actually changes the decision. This is from a 2024 BMW i4 in Long Island with 22,500 miles. A shop burned me once by skipping that step. If the title is messy I'm out, full stop.

Insurance and tax belong in the comparison, not as a surprise. A written buyer’s order on the 2024 BMW i4 is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “dealer apr is higher than my credit-union,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. That's my plan before I call anyone.

If I were shopping this, in Long Island, insurance quotes flipped a 2024 BMW i4 comparison for me more than the sale price did. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Time, temperature, and whether it's in gear are the notes that actually help a shop. Worth doing even if the car feels fine right now. I'll update if anything new shows up.

Treat this like a math problem, not a vibe. A written buyer’s order on the 2024 BMW i4 is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

Yes, with one caveat: Ask for out-the-door on the 2024 BMW i4 with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. This is the version I'd tell a friend.

That's a good start, but I wouldn't stop there. I would not wire money until I've seen the 2024 BMW i4 and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. Then the comparison gets honest. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. If they only talk monthly I'm walking.

Not convinced that's the whole story. Two 2024 BMW i4 quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. If the title is messy I'm out, full stop.
