2024 Polestar 2 — fast charging tapers earlier than it used to — second opinion before I spend money

WrenchEnthusiast541Community StarterJul 29, 20262024 Polestar 2 Long Range Dual MotorNorth Jersey
2024 Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor, about 17,500 miles. On comparable road trips the charge rate now starts tapering sooner. I am trying to separate charger sharing, battery temperature, software changes and actual battery health.

Intermittent stuff lies if you only catch it once. Capture voltage while the 2024 Polestar 2 is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. On “fast charging tapers earlier than it used,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2024 Polestar 2 in North Jersey with 17,500 miles. That's the whole play. Next check is the cheap one I can do in a driveway.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. If a shop can't duplicate it on the 2024 Polestar 2, bring a video plus freeze-frame data, not just a story. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. Stop there until you know. Doing the boring step first on purpose.

Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. If you share a photo of the worksheet, easier to sanity-check. I'd rather be boring and correct. Not interested in a five-hour wait for a shrug.

Not convinced that's the whole story. If a shop can't duplicate it on the 2024 Polestar 2, bring a video plus freeze-frame data, not just a story. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. Stop there until you know. Only after sitting overnight so far.

Log the conditions before you spend. A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2024 Polestar 2 is losing coolant with no puddle. That's the branch I'd chase this week. On “fast charging tapers earlier than it used,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2024 Polestar 2 in North Jersey with 17,500 miles. Just my two cents from doing this recently. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

Start with the test that can prove you wrong. Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2024 Polestar 2 and see if the fault moves. Save the big job until that test fails. Stop there until you know. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

Not convinced that's the whole story. Move a coil or plug on the 2024 Polestar 2 if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. That's the branch I'd chase this week. Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. Parking it somewhere I can hear it better next time.

If it were in my driveway, two 2024 Polestar 2s can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. This is from a 2024 Polestar 2 in North Jersey with 17,500 miles. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' Not interested in a five-hour wait for a shrug.

Fair point. Counterpoint: Move a coil or plug on the 2024 Polestar 2 if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. Any freeze-frame data saved? I've seen both outcomes, which is why I'd test instead of assume. If it repeats twice more I'll book time.

Yes, with one caveat: Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2024 Polestar 2 and see if the fault moves. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. This is from a 2024 Polestar 2 in North Jersey with 17,500 miles. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. Next check is the cheap one I can do in a driveway.

Checked the easy stuff on the 2024 Polestar 2 and found one clue worth chasing before I book a shop. I'll poke at it this weekend.

Ask what changed right before it started. Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2024 Polestar 2 and see if the fault moves. Save the big job until that test fails. A shop burned me once by skipping that step. A day of patience here is cheaper than a wrong part. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

That's a good start, but I wouldn't stop there. Capture voltage while the 2024 Polestar 2 is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. Video is ugly but it shows the hesitation.
