2024 Rivian R1S Dual-Motor — need advice: Clunk over small sharp bumps but not big ones

DetailGeekCommunity StarterJan 27, 20262024 Rivian R1S Dual-MotorBoston / New England
There is a single clunk from the front over small potholes and driveway edges. Big smooth bumps don't reproduce it. End links look intact. Any good way to isolate strut mount vs sway-bar link vs control-arm bushing? I'm in Boston / New England. If I fix it I'll come back and update the thread.

It did motor — need advice: clunk over small twice this week, both times after sitting. No change in mileage feel. I refuse to clear codes until someone else sees them.

Low-voltage gremlins will strand you even with a full pack. Try a second charger before blaming the 2024 Rivian R1S — site sharing and pack temp change the curve a lot. Then you'll know the next fork. Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. I've seen both outcomes, which is why I'd test instead of assume. Parking it somewhere I can hear it better next time.

I'd treat 12V warnings as a no-ignore. On the 2024 Rivian R1S, I'd get the 12V/DC-DC side checked even if the traction pack looks fine. That's where I'd start. On “motor — need advice: clunk over small,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2024 Rivian R1S in Boston / New England. Do that first. Next check is the cheap one I can do in a driveway.

Don't clear the alert just to make the screen pretty. Leave the alerts on the 2024 Rivian R1S so service can see what you saw. That's where I'd start. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. I'd sleep better after that step, even if it finds nothing. Next check is the cheap one I can do in a driveway.

I hear you, though I'd still want a second check. On the 2024 Rivian R1S, I'd get the 12V/DC-DC side checked even if the traction pack looks fine. Then you'll know the next fork. On “motor — need advice: clunk over small,” that was the fork that mattered for me. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' If the story changes I'll post the new data.

Don't clear the alert just to make the screen pretty. Leave the alerts on the 2024 Rivian R1S so service can see what you saw. That's where I'd start. Take it or leave it — that's what I'd do. If that fails I'll eat the diagnostic fee.

Asking because it changes the advice: Match starting SOC and battery temp if you're comparing 2024 Rivian R1S charge sessions. I'd do that before spending real money. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. Doing the boring step first on purpose.

That's a good start, but I wouldn't stop there. Try a second charger before blaming the 2024 Rivian R1S — site sharing and pack temp change the curve a lot. Then you'll know the next fork. Just my two cents from doing this recently. Make the next action something you can finish this week. If that fails I'll eat the diagnostic fee.

Cleared nothing. I want service to see the alert on the 2024 Rivian R1S first. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

Yes, with one caveat: Leave the alerts on the 2024 Rivian R1S so service can see what you saw. That's where I'd start. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' Not driving it hard until I know more.

I went back under the 2024 Rivian R1S and it only happens after a heat soak, not on a cold start. Not interested in a five-hour wait for a shrug.

Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. If it repeats twice more I'll book time.

OP update: scanned the 2024 Rivian R1S again and still only have the one pending code, no new lights. I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.

Checked the easy stuff on the 2024 Rivian R1S and found one clue worth chasing before I book a shop. Wrote this up on my lunch break.
