2024 Rivian R1S Dual-Motor — physical buttons are disappearing again — good or bad?

NorthPilot2Community StarterJul 19, 20262024 Rivian R1S Dual-MotorChicago
2024 Rivian R1S Dual-Motor, about 37,000 miles. Automakers keep moving basic controls between touchscreens and physical buttons depending on the generation. What controls do you absolutely want to remain physical? Trying to diagnose before I book a shop.

Low-voltage gremlins will strand you even with a full pack. Try a second charger before blaming the 2024 Rivian R1S — site sharing and pack temp change the curve a lot. Then you'll know the next fork. Parts cannon is a personality type I try to avoid. If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.

I'd do that before spending real money. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. I've seen both outcomes, which is why I'd test instead of assume. If it repeats twice more I'll book time.

Don't clear the alert just to make the screen pretty. Leave the alerts on the 2024 Rivian R1S so service can see what you saw. Then you'll know the next fork. Take it or leave it — that's what I'd do. Not trying to scare you — just skip the expensive first guess. If it repeats twice more I'll book time.

Same neighborhood, different next step: On the 2024 Rivian R1S, I'd get the 12V/DC-DC side checked even if the traction pack looks fine. That's where I'd start. On “motor — physical buttons are disappearing again,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. Climate here is different, so treat that as a local data point. I already checked the easy fluid levels.

Charge curves lie if you don't match starting SOC and temp. Match starting SOC and battery temp if you're comparing 2024 Rivian R1S charge sessions. I'd do that before spending real money. This is from a 2024 Rivian R1S in Chicago with 37,000 miles. Monthly payment math is how wallets disappear. If it repeats twice more I'll book time.

Did the worksheet show tax yet? That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. Trying not to diagnose from the couch.

I'd treat 12V warnings as a no-ignore. On the 2024 Rivian R1S, I'd get the 12V/DC-DC side checked even if the traction pack looks fine. That's where I'd start. Parking it somewhere I can hear it better next time.

Have you gotten a second quote in writing? Worth doing even if the car feels fine right now. I'll poke at it this weekend.

Don't clear the alert just to make the screen pretty. Leave the alerts on the 2024 Rivian R1S so service can see what you saw. Then you'll know the next fork. A shop burned me once by skipping that step. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

Yes, with one caveat: Leave the alerts on the 2024 Rivian R1S so service can see what you saw. I'd do that before spending real money. Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. Heat soak after errands is the other window.

If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. A day of patience here is cheaper than a wrong part. If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.
