2024 Rivian R1S — fast charging tapers earlier than it used to

FlatSixGeekCommunity StarterDec 15, 20252024 Rivian R1S Dual-MotorColumbus
2024 Rivian R1S Dual-Motor, about 17,500 miles. On comparable road trips the charge rate now starts tapering sooner. I am trying to separate charger sharing, battery temperature, software changes and actual battery health. I am trying to get the facts straight before spending money.

I wouldn't throw parts yet. If a shop can't duplicate it on the 2024 Rivian R1S, bring a video plus freeze-frame data, not just a story. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. Did the worksheet show tax yet? Your commute and mine probably aren't the same, but the test still applies. Doing the boring step first on purpose.

OP here — recorded a short video and noted speed, temp, and whether it was in gear. That's my plan before I call anyone.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. If a shop can't duplicate it on the 2024 Rivian R1S, bring a video plus freeze-frame data, not just a story. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. Have you gotten a second quote in writing? I'd sleep better after that step, even if it finds nothing. Happens in gear, not in park, for what that's worth.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2024 Rivian R1S and see if the fault moves. That's the branch I'd chase this week. Do that first. Only after sitting overnight so far.

Log the conditions before you spend. A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2024 Rivian R1S is losing coolant with no puddle. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. On “fast charging tapers earlier than it used,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Do that first. Climate here is different, so treat that as a local data point. I keep a notes app thread for this now.

Start with the test that can prove you wrong. A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2024 Rivian R1S is losing coolant with no puddle. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. Do that first. I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.

If it were in my driveway, write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2024 Rivian R1S does it — then decide on parts. Save the big job until that test fails. Take it or leave it — that's what I'd do. This is the version I'd tell a friend.

If it were in my driveway, move a coil or plug on the 2024 Rivian R1S if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. That's the branch I'd chase this week. Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. I'd rather pay for diagnosis than a second guess-repair.

Ask what changed right before it started. Loaded-suspension checks on the 2024 Rivian R1S catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. Just my two cents from doing this recently. Make the next action something you can finish this week. Wrote this up on my lunch break.

Intermittent stuff lies if you only catch it once. A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2024 Rivian R1S is losing coolant with no puddle. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. On “fast charging tapers earlier than it used,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Just my two cents from doing this recently. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. If that fails I'll eat the diagnostic fee.
