2024 Rivian R1S — how are owners measuring real battery degradation?

RustBeltGarage568Community StarterDec 10, 20252024 Rivian R1S Dual-MotorDenver
2024 Rivian R1S Dual-Motor, about 21,500 miles. Displayed range moves too much with weather and recent driving to be a useful health metric by itself. What repeatable measurements do you trust for tracking battery degradation over time?

Low-voltage gremlins will strand you even with a full pack. Try a second charger before blaming the 2024 Rivian R1S — site sharing and pack temp change the curve a lot. Then you'll know the next fork. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. I've seen both outcomes, which is why I'd test instead of assume. Doing the boring step first on purpose.

Don't clear the alert just to make the screen pretty. Leave the alerts on the 2024 Rivian R1S so service can see what you saw. That's where I'd start. A shop burned me once by skipping that step. I'll poke at it this weekend.

This is from a 2024 Rivian R1S in Denver with 21,500 miles. That's the sequence I'd use. I'd sleep better after that step, even if it finds nothing. If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.

Charge curves lie if you don't match starting SOC and temp. Match starting SOC and battery temp if you're comparing 2024 Rivian R1S charge sessions. Then you'll know the next fork. This is from a 2024 Rivian R1S in Denver with 21,500 miles. Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.

Fair point. Counterpoint: Match starting SOC and battery temp if you're comparing 2024 Rivian R1S charge sessions. I'd do that before spending real money. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. Make the next action something you can finish this week. Cold start is when I can actually reproduce it.

Same neighborhood, different next step: On the 2024 Rivian R1S, I'd get the 12V/DC-DC side checked even if the traction pack looks fine. That's where I'd start. On “how are owners measuring real battery degradation,” that was the fork that mattered for me. If you share a photo of the worksheet, easier to sanity-check. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.

Time, temperature, and whether it's in gear are the notes that actually help a shop. Next check is the cheap one I can do in a driveway.

I'd treat 12V warnings as a no-ignore. On the 2024 Rivian R1S, I'd get the 12V/DC-DC side checked even if the traction pack looks fine. I'd do that before spending real money. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.
