2024 Tesla Model Y — dealer APR is higher than my credit-union preapproval

QuietCollector76Community StarterApr 29, 20262024 Tesla Model Y Long RangeTampa
2024 Tesla Model Y Long Range, about 17,500 miles. I have a preapproval in hand and the dealer offered a higher rate. Is there any reason to let them try to beat it, and how should I compare lender fees or incentives instead of only APR?

Treat this like a math problem, not a vibe. GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2024 Tesla Model Y numbers without them. If they balk, that's your answer. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. Sleeping on the number either way.

Agree — and I'd add this: Ask for out-the-door on the 2024 Tesla Model Y with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. Do that before you talk monthly again. On “dealer apr is higher than my credit-union,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. That's my plan before I call anyone.

Coming back with numbers — insurance in Tampa changed the 2024 Tesla Model Y comparison more than the sale price did. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2024 Tesla Model Y price probably got worse. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Any freeze-frame data saved? I'll update if anything new shows up.

I'd want competing paper, not competing stories. GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2024 Tesla Model Y numbers without them. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. I'd rather be boring and correct. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

I would not stare at the monthly. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2024 Tesla Model Y price probably got worse. Then the comparison gets honest. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.

Hard-won lesson from my last deal: Ask for out-the-door on the 2024 Tesla Model Y with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “dealer apr is higher than my credit-union,” that was the fork that mattered for me. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

If I were shopping this, if they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2024 Tesla Model Y price probably got worse. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. This is from a 2024 Tesla Model Y in Tampa with 17,500 miles. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' Doc fee is the line I'm watching.
