2024 Volkswagen Golf R — service lifetime transmission fluid or leave it alone?

The manual treats the fluid as lifetime under normal conditions, but the vehicle is getting older and I plan to keep it. What are owners doing in practice, and why choose drain-and-fill versus an exchange?

Log the conditions before you spend. Two 2024 Volkswagen Golf Rs can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. Save the big job until that test fails. On “service lifetime transmission fluid or leave it,” that was the fork that mattered for me. That's the whole play. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. Video is ugly but it shows the hesitation.

Ask what changed right before it started. Capture voltage while the 2024 Volkswagen Golf R is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. When does it actually happen? If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.

Fair point. Counterpoint: If a shop can't duplicate it on the 2024 Volkswagen Golf R, bring a video plus freeze-frame data, not just a story. Save the big job until that test fails. A shop burned me once by skipping that step. I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.

Agree — and I'd add this: Two 2024 Volkswagen Golf Rs can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. Save the big job until that test fails. Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. I'd sleep better after that step, even if it finds nothing. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.
