Anyone else: How are you estimating real battery degradation?

CruiseTuner71Community StarterAug 17, 20262024 Rivian R1S Dual-MotorMichigan
Dash range changes with temperature and driving, so I'm looking for a better way to judge battery health. What data do you trust—usable kWh, charging energy, service-mode values, repeated range tests? Appreciate any ideas on what to check first.

Low-voltage gremlins will strand you even with a full pack. Try a second charger before blaming the 2024 Rivian R1S — site sharing and pack temp change the curve a lot. That's where I'd start. This is from a 2024 Rivian R1S in Michigan. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. Worth doing even if the car feels fine right now. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

I'd treat 12V warnings as a no-ignore. On the 2024 Rivian R1S, I'd get the 12V/DC-DC side checked even if the traction pack looks fine. I'd do that before spending real money. On “how are you estimating real battery degradation,” that was the fork that mattered for me. That's the whole play. I refuse to clear codes until someone else sees them.

Checked the easy stuff on the 2024 Rivian R1S and found one clue worth chasing before I book a shop. Doing the boring step first on purpose.

Don't clear the alert just to make the screen pretty. Leave the alerts on the 2024 Rivian R1S so service can see what you saw. Then you'll know the next fork. Do that first. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.

Charge curves lie if you don't match starting SOC and temp. Match starting SOC and battery temp if you're comparing 2024 Rivian R1S charge sessions. That's where I'd start. If you share a photo of the worksheet, easier to sanity-check. I'll update if anything new shows up.

OP here — recorded a short video and noted speed, temp, and whether it was in gear. Doing the boring step first on purpose.

Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. Cold start is when I can actually reproduce it.

Fair point. Counterpoint: Try a second charger before blaming the 2024 Rivian R1S — site sharing and pack temp change the curve a lot. Then you'll know the next fork. This is from a 2024 Rivian R1S in Michigan. Did the worksheet show tax yet? If it repeats twice more I'll book time.
