Anyone else: Payload sticker changed my whole truck-shopping plan

I was focused on tow rating until I started adding passengers, gear and tongue weight. Now payload looks like the real limit. How much buffer do you personally leave for a family towing setup? Appreciate any ideas on what to check first.

Don't overfit one forum story to your car. If it still isn't clear on the 1990 Ford F-150, a specialist hour can be cheaper than another round of parts. Then you'll know the next fork. Just my two cents from doing this recently. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

Write down what you already tried. A second data point from another 1990 Ford F-150 owner helps more than a generic diagnosis. That's where I'd start. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. I'd rather be boring and correct. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.
