CPO luxury SUV or brand-new mainstream SUV?

2018 Ford Mustang GT, about 78,000 miles. Budget works for either a lightly used luxury SUV or a new mainstream model with a full warranty. I'm more worried about three-to-five-year ownership cost and service downtime than the purchase price. How would you compare them? Appreciate any ideas on what to check first.

Get the messy numbers in writing first. A written buyer’s order on the 2018 Ford Mustang is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” If they balk, that's your answer. On “new mainstream suv,” that was the fork that mattered for me. That's the whole play. That's my plan before I call anyone.

I'd want competing paper, not competing stories. Ask for out-the-door on the 2018 Ford Mustang with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. If they balk, that's your answer. That's the whole play. PPI guy I use is booked until next week, so I'm waiting.

Walk if they won't put it on a buyer’s order. If one piece looks too good on the 2018 Ford Mustang, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. I'd slow the salesperson down here. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2018 Ford Mustang price probably got worse. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. If you share a photo of the worksheet, easier to sanity-check. I'd rather be boring and correct. Treat this like a math problem, not a vibe. GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2018 Ford Mustang numbers without them. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. I would not stare at the monthly. I would not wire money until I've seen the 2018 Ford Mustang and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. Then the comparison gets honest. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. If the title is messy I'm out, full stop.

That's a good start, but I wouldn't stop there. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2018 Ford Mustang price probably got worse. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Parts cannon is a personality type I try to avoid. If the title is messy I'm out, full stop.

Don't send a deposit on a phone quote. Two 2018 Ford Mustang quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. Stop there until you know. A day of patience here is cheaper than a wrong part. Not wiring anything in the meantime.
