Need advice: Steering wheel shakes only under highway braking

MileageHunterCommunity StarterJun 16, 20262024 Ford Mustang GTDenver / Front Range
2024 Ford Mustang GT, about 48,000 miles. No vibration cruising, but braking from highway speed makes the steering wheel shake. Pads still have material. Is rotor thickness variation the usual culprit or should suspension bushings be checked first?

If it were in my driveway, two 2024 Ford Mustangs can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. That's the branch I'd chase this week. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. Only after sitting overnight so far.

Ask what changed right before it started. Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2024 Ford Mustang and see if the fault moves. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. A day of patience here is cheaper than a wrong part. If that fails I'll eat the diagnostic fee.

Intermittent stuff lies if you only catch it once. Move a coil or plug on the 2024 Ford Mustang if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. On “steering wheel shakes only under highway braking,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2024 Ford Mustang in Denver / Front Range with 48,000 miles. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. Climate here is different, so treat that as a local data point. Cold start is when I can actually reproduce it.

I wouldn't throw parts yet. A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2024 Ford Mustang is losing coolant with no puddle. Save the big job until that test fails. Time, temperature, and whether it's in gear are the notes that actually help a shop. Worth doing even if the car feels fine right now. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2024 Ford Mustang and see if the fault moves. Save the big job until that test fails. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. Video is ugly but it shows the hesitation.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. Move a coil or plug on the 2024 Ford Mustang if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. I refuse to clear codes until someone else sees them.
