Question: How are you estimating real battery degradation?

QuietDailyCommunity StarterMay 26, 20262023 Rivian R1T Quad-MotorPennsylvania
Dash range changes with temperature and driving, so I'm looking for a better way to judge battery health. What data do you trust—usable kWh, charging energy, service-mode values, repeated range tests? Any data points from owners would help.

Don't clear the alert just to make the screen pretty. Leave the alerts on the 2023 Rivian R1T so service can see what you saw. That's where I'd start. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. Video is ugly but it shows the hesitation.

Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. I'd rather be boring and correct. Checking again after work.

Charge curves lie if you don't match starting SOC and temp. Match starting SOC and battery temp if you're comparing 2023 Rivian R1T charge sessions. I'd do that before spending real money. Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. Happens in gear, not in park, for what that's worth.

Write the result down so the next test isn't a repeat of the last one. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

Fair point. Counterpoint: Try a second charger before blaming the 2023 Rivian R1T — site sharing and pack temp change the curve a lot. That's where I'd start. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. I've seen both outcomes, which is why I'd test instead of assume. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

I'd treat 12V warnings as a no-ignore. On the 2023 Rivian R1T, I'd get the 12V/DC-DC side checked even if the traction pack looks fine. That's where I'd start. On “how are you estimating real battery degradation,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. I keep a notes app thread for this now.

Low-voltage gremlins will strand you even with a full pack. Try a second charger before blaming the 2023 Rivian R1T — site sharing and pack temp change the curve a lot. That's where I'd start. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. I'll update if anything new shows up.

I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.

If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.

Agree — and I'd add this: Leave the alerts on the 2023 Rivian R1T so service can see what you saw. I'd do that before spending real money. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. No warning lights, which is why I'm documenting it.

Not convinced that's the whole story. Match starting SOC and battery temp if you're comparing 2023 Rivian R1T charge sessions. I'd do that before spending real money. Just my two cents from doing this recently. Video is ugly but it shows the hesitation.

Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. Make the next action something you can finish this week. I refuse to clear codes until someone else sees them.

Quick add on that: On the 2023 Rivian R1T, I'd get the 12V/DC-DC side checked even if the traction pack looks fine. I'd do that before spending real money. On “how are you estimating real battery degradation,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2023 Rivian R1T in Pennsylvania. Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. Climate here is different, so treat that as a local data point. I'll update if anything new shows up.

Checked the easy stuff on the 2023 Rivian R1T and found one clue worth chasing before I book a shop. I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.

Update: the cheap test changed the symptom, so I'm not throwing parts yet. Not driving it hard until I know more.

If it repeats twice more I'll book time.
