1968 Ford Mustang — first HPDE in a stock street car

I am doing my first beginner track day and do not care about lap records. Besides fresh brake fluid, enough pad, good tires and torque checks, what is truly necessary versus internet overkill? I am trying to get the facts straight before spending money. Mileage is about 81,000.

I'd keep this practical. Verify the cheap/easy branch on the 1968 Ford Mustang before a big repair or a big spend. I'd do that before spending real money. This is from a 1968 Ford Mustang in Charlotte. Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. I've seen both outcomes, which is why I'd test instead of assume. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

Owner notes beat generic advice here. On the 1968 Ford Mustang in Charlotte, I'd fix the thing you'll notice every day before chasing spec-sheet extras. I'd do that before spending real money. On “first hpde in a stock street car,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Take it or leave it — that's what I'd do. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

Write down what you already tried. A second data point from another 1968 Ford Mustang owner helps more than a generic diagnosis. I'd do that before spending real money. This is from a 1968 Ford Mustang in Charlotte. Stop there until you know. This is the version I'd tell a friend.

Don't overfit one forum story to your car. If it still isn't clear on the 1968 Ford Mustang, a specialist hour can be cheaper than another round of parts. That's where I'd start. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.

Owner notes beat generic advice here. On the 1968 Ford Mustang in Charlotte, I'd fix the thing you'll notice every day before chasing spec-sheet extras. Then you'll know the next fork. On “first hpde in a stock street car,” that was the fork that mattered for me. A shop burned me once by skipping that step. Wrote this up on my lunch break.
