1968 Ford Mustang — tires or pads first for a beginner autocross season?

Budget allows one meaningful upgrade. Current street tires are decent and brakes are standard replacements. Which upgrade helps a new driver learn more before adding other parts? I am in Houston.

Useful. I'll report back after I verify that on my 1968 Ford Mustang. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

Asking because it changes the advice: If it still isn't clear on the 1968 Ford Mustang, a specialist hour can be cheaper than another round of parts. Then you'll know the next fork. Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.

Write down what you already tried. A second data point from another 1968 Ford Mustang owner helps more than a generic diagnosis. That's where I'd start. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

Write down what you already tried. A second data point from another 1968 Ford Mustang owner helps more than a generic diagnosis. That's where I'd start. This is from a 1968 Ford Mustang in Houston. That's the sequence I'd use. I'd sleep better after that step, even if it finds nothing. This is the version I'd tell a friend.

Don't overfit one forum story to your car. If it still isn't clear on the 1968 Ford Mustang, a specialist hour can be cheaper than another round of parts. I'd do that before spending real money. This is from a 1968 Ford Mustang in Houston. No need to make it theatrical. I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.

I'd keep this practical. Verify the cheap/easy branch on the 1968 Ford Mustang before a big repair or a big spend. That's where I'd start. No need to make it theatrical. Your commute and mine probably aren't the same, but the test still applies. I'll update if anything new shows up.

Same neighborhood, different next step: On the 1968 Ford Mustang in Houston, I'd fix the thing you'll notice every day before chasing spec-sheet extras. I'd do that before spending real money. On “tires or pads first for a beginner,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 1968 Ford Mustang in Houston. Have you gotten a second quote in writing? This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.
