2023 Rivian R1T — costs that mattered more than fuel economy

EVTraveler220Community StarterMar 30, 20262023 Rivian R1T Quad-MotorBrooklyn
After owning the car for a while, tires, insurance and service pricing mattered more than the MPG difference I obsessed over before buying. What ownership costs surprised you most?

Log the conditions before you spend. A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2023 Rivian R1T is losing coolant with no puddle. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. On “costs that mattered more than fuel economy,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2023 Rivian R1T in Brooklyn. Any freeze-frame data saved? Wrote this up on my lunch break.

Start with the test that can prove you wrong. A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2023 Rivian R1T is losing coolant with no puddle. Save the big job until that test fails. Was this after sitting overnight? I've seen both outcomes, which is why I'd test instead of assume. Checking again after work.

I wouldn't throw parts yet. Loaded-suspension checks on the 2023 Rivian R1T catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. Happens in gear, not in park, for what that's worth.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. If a shop can't duplicate it on the 2023 Rivian R1T, bring a video plus freeze-frame data, not just a story. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. That's the sequence I'd use. That's my plan before I call anyone.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2023 Rivian R1T and see if the fault moves. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. This is from a 2023 Rivian R1T in Brooklyn. When does it actually happen? I'll update if anything new shows up.
