2024 Ford F-150 — dealer APR is higher than my credit-union preapproval

I have a preapproval in hand and the dealer offered a higher rate. Is there any reason to let them try to beat it, and how should I compare lender fees or incentives instead of only APR? I am in Cleveland.

Insurance and tax belong in the comparison, not as a surprise. GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2024 Ford F-150 numbers without them. If they balk, that's your answer. On “150 — dealer apr is higher than,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Just my two cents from doing this recently. I asked for the buyer’s order in email, not a text.

Treat this like a math problem, not a vibe. Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2024 Ford F-150 so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. Do that before you talk monthly again. Have you gotten a second quote in writing? Not trying to scare you — just skip the expensive first guess. Going to re-read the worksheet tonight.

That's a good start, but I wouldn't stop there. Two 2024 Ford F-150 quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. Then the comparison gets honest. Just my two cents from doing this recently. Make the next action something you can finish this week. Calling insurance in the morning before I reply to the desk.

OP here. Still looking, but I'm waiting on inspection notes before I send money on the 2024 Ford F-150. Going to compare one more dealer before I decide.

Not convinced that's the whole story. Two 2024 Ford F-150 quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. That's the part that actually changes the decision. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. Worth doing even if the car feels fine right now. Not letting add-ons ride along because everyone does.

I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “150 — dealer apr is higher than,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. If they get vague again I'm shopping the deal elsewhere.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. I would not wire money until I've seen the 2024 Ford F-150 and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. That's the part that actually changes the decision. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. Not wiring anything in the meantime.

Update from me: I finally have sale price, fees, and trade on separate lines for the 2024 Ford F-150. PPI guy I use is booked until next week, so I'm waiting.

I'd want competing paper, not competing stories. Call your insurer in Cleveland before you fall in love with the 2024 Ford F-150. Do that before you talk monthly again. Have you gotten a second quote in writing? I'll post OTD once I have two apples-to-apples sheets.

Walk if they won't put it on a buyer’s order. If one piece looks too good on the 2024 Ford F-150, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. Doing the boring step first on purpose.

Not convinced that's the whole story. In Cleveland, insurance quotes flipped a 2024 Ford F-150 comparison for me more than the sale price did. Then the comparison gets honest. Did the worksheet show tax yet? That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. Not wiring anything in the meantime.

I'd push back a little: If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2024 Ford F-150 price probably got worse. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. If they only talk monthly I'm walking.

Hard-won lesson from my last deal: GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2024 Ford F-150 numbers without them. Do that before you talk monthly again. On “150 — dealer apr is higher than,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Write the result down so the next test isn't a repeat of the last one. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. That's my plan before I call anyone.
