2024 Ford Mustang — dealer APR is higher than my credit-union preapproval

I have a preapproval in hand and the dealer offered a higher rate. Is there any reason to let them try to beat it, and how should I compare lender fees or incentives instead of only APR? If I figure it out I will update the thread. What would you check next?

Hard-won lesson from my last deal: Call your insurer in Westchester before you fall in love with the 2024 Ford Mustang. Do that before you talk monthly again. On “dealer apr is higher than my credit-union,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Time, temperature, and whether it's in gear are the notes that actually help a shop. That's my plan before I call anyone.

Update from me: I finally have sale price, fees, and trade on separate lines for the 2024 Ford Mustang. If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.

Get the messy numbers in writing first. Call your insurer in Westchester before you fall in love with the 2024 Ford Mustang. If they balk, that's your answer. On “dealer apr is higher than my credit-union,” that was the fork that mattered for me. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. If GAP is bundled I'm making them unbundle it.

That's a good start, but I wouldn't stop there. Two 2024 Ford Mustang quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. Then the comparison gets honest. No need to make it theatrical. Not wiring anything in the meantime.

If I were shopping this, if one piece looks too good on the 2024 Ford Mustang, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. I'll update if anything new shows up.

I hear you, though I'd still want a second check. Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2024 Ford Mustang so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “dealer apr is higher than my credit-union,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. Climate here is different, so treat that as a local data point. I screenshotted the quote for later.

Walk if they won't put it on a buyer’s order. Two 2024 Ford Mustang quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. Doc fee is the line I'm watching.

Treat this like a math problem, not a vibe. A written buyer’s order on the 2024 Ford Mustang is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” If they balk, that's your answer. Any freeze-frame data saved? This is the version I'd tell a friend.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. Two 2024 Ford Mustang quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Stop there until you know. If the title is messy I'm out, full stop.
